pie we see them pray to God and go to church and do the things God tells them to do in His Vord, and now I , know you can. tell me what kind of people this man and his wife were. Yes, they were people who loved God and did the things that were pleasing to God their heavenly Father. Now with this nice home and the wife and husband are kind and good to each other, still they are not real happy, and what do you think keeps them from be ing very happy? Yes, Mary, you have guessed correctly, there was no little boy or girl to love them and make the home ring with laughter, and that was the reason this home was not as happy as it should have been. Now we re member this man and his wife were peo ple who loved God, and of course they told God all about everything that hap pened in their lives, and one day the woman was in church praying and ask ing God to send her a little boy, and she told God if He would send her a little boy she would give him back to God to serve Him all the days of his life. When the woman went home from church with her husband she did not look sad any more, for she knew God had heard her prayer and that He would send her a son if He thought it was best for them to have one. The woman who asked God for a little boy was named Hannah. God knew how faith ful Hannah and her husband had been and He remembered Hannah’s prayer, and sent her a son, -and she called his name Samuel, which means, Asked of God: because she had asked God for him, and God gave him to her. Tliis father and mother loved little Samuel very dearly, bu t.they loved God, and even though.it was hard for Hannah to be separated from Samuel, she wanted her little son to be the Lord’s servant all the days of his life, so Hannah was willing to have Samuel go to the house of the Lord and remain there. In those days the minister lived in a room on

one side of the church, and at night there was a lighted lamp hanging in the church. One day when Samuel had grown old enough to run about and could do many things to help mother, she took him to the church where she had prayed and asked God to give her a son, and gave him to the minister who lived in the church, just as she had promised God she would do if He would give her a son. Hannah would miss her boy very mu.ch, and she- had loved to have him run about the house and play by her side, but she was go ing to let him live in God’s house. Each year Hannah made Samuel a little coat and brought it to the house of God with her offering for the Lord. What a great help Samuel was to the minis ter, for he yrould jump up in the morn ing and throw open the doors of the church and let the sunshine in. That was his work closing the doors at night and opening them in the morning, and taking care of the lamp. Samuel’s room was on the other side of the church from the minister’s room. So we see Samuel was very useful to the aged minister, and he was such a splendid boy, always bright and cheerful. Now comes the best part of our story. (Tell story of night when God called him four times. Make this story live as you tell it, put ting special emphasis upon Samuel’s quick obedience each time he heard his name.) This is a good time for our memory verse, and Samuel always did just what this verse tells us to do. Boys
