A Look Back and a Look Ahead Planning for a Memorable Year

I’m energized and I’m focused. As I sit down to write this, I’m almost halfway through the “75 Hard Challenge,” pushing myself to improve in areas of physical fitness, emotional resilience, and mental insight. So far, it’s definitely been a game- changer, and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you in a future newsletter! As we make headway into 2024, things are pretty exciting around here at Wolf Retirement Navigation! By the time you receive this newsletter, Andrea and Malcolm will have already welcomed their little bundle of joy, Aria Taylor. She made her appearance three weeks earlier than expected, one minute after midnight on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Many “Congratulations” and “Best Wishes” are extended to the entire family! We are in the middle of interviewing candidates to continue growing our team and will soon have a new service assistant and advisor to increase our resources and communications with you. Robin is in her element, planning out the entire year — webinars, social events, and, of course, our big 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY celebration party. Plans are well underway, and I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but let me tell you, this one will be one for the memory books! I’m also proud to announce that I have a new TV program airing on alternating Saturdays and Sundays, expanding from our two-minute segment, “The Finance REPORT,” with hosts David Wilkinson and Mallory Hoff. The extended “Finance REPORT” now runs for a full 30 minutes and is packed with various retirement topics in mini-segments. It has been a lot of fun to record these shows, especially the entertaining “15 in 15” portions, and I’m excited to share them with you! More information is detailed in a separate article in this newsletter. As I look back over the past decade and think about where we have been and where we are heading, I decided to sort through previous newsletters that I mailed out to all of you. I stumbled across one from 2019 — right at our five-year mark. I highlighted our team and how I couldn’t have possibly made it to where I was without them and how grateful I was to have them on our path forward. I’m fortunate to have Robin 10 years later with more enthusiasm than ever. What was true five years ago is still true today — our team is the best! Five years ago, my goal was to celebrate a decade of service and to look forward to another one — mission accomplished! In between our fifth anniversary and 10th anniversary, the pandemic introduced us results. Consult your financial professional before making any investment decision. to a whole new set of challenges. Our staff worked from home, and we weren’t able to meet with our clients face to face. Yet, we weathered it all. That’s what we do here at Wolf Retirement Navigation. We hope for the best but plan for the “not-so-best.” We will do everything in our power to protect our clients during any unforeseen scenario. So, as we find our footing in 2024, what word defines your year? For me, “sharing” comes to mind. I embrace sharing my knowledge and experiences, and I look forward to sharing another year — another decade — of great moments and memories with each and every one of you. We invite you to share your successes and milestones, past and present, with us; we’d love to see your pictures and hear about your special moments! And, remember, when you share our name with others, it’s the best compliment in the world to us!

The Garden Path to Joy GREEN THUMBS, FULL HEARTS

Retirement opens the door to new hobbies and activities. Among these, cultivating an organic vegetable garden could be a fulfilling and beneficial option. This activity provides your body with healthy exercise and fresh produce and can rejuvenate your mind and soul. Health Benefits: A Natural Boost for Well-Being Physical Activity: Gardening is a gentle way to stay active. Bending, planting, and tending to vegetables are excellent low-impact exercises that improve flexibility and strength. Plus, it doesn’t feel like you’re exercising because the activity is goal-focused. Healthy Eating: Harvesting your own vegetables ensures a supply of fresh, organic produce. This home-grown food is free from harmful pesticides and richer in nutrients, contributing to a healthier diet. If you have extras, you can share your harvest with others, helping to improve their diets, too! Mental Health: Gardening is therapeutic. It reduces stress and promotes a sense of accomplishment. It’s also a source of new learning and curiosity. You may need to do some research to learn about the best zones for various plants and techniques to keep them healthy. Watching plants grow from seeds to harvest can be incredibly satisfying and a great way to boost mental well-being.

Environmental Impact: Tending to the Earth Responsibly Organic gardening is environmentally sustainable. By avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides, gardeners protect the soil and local wildlife. Home-grown vegetables mean fewer trips to the store and less packaging waste, contributing to a smaller carbon footprint. So, by gardening, you’re participating in an eco-friendly practice. Social Connection: Growing Community Ties Gardening offers opportunities to connect with fellow gardeners, share tips, and exchange produce, fostering a sense of community. Inviting grandchildren or neighborhood kids to the garden can educate them about where food comes from and the importance of sustainable practices. If you participate in a community garden, these benefits, in particular, contribute to a sense of well-being because you’re getting active in the community, making friends, and sharing your knowledge with others. It’s a win-win. Organic gardening in retirement is not just about cultivating plants; it’s about cultivating a healthier lifestyle, a better environment, and stronger community bonds. It’s a hobby that offers endless learning, joy, and satisfaction, making retirement not just a time to relax but also a time to thrive.

EMBRACING SELF-LOVE IN RETIREMENT A Valentine’s Day Reminder

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the focus on love often centers around romantic relationships. However, this year, let’s take a moment to shift the spotlight onto a different kind of love — the love we show ourselves, especially in our retirement years. The importance of this self-care becomes increasingly significant in our golden years, and embracing self-love can have profound benefits for overall well-being. Retirement marks a new chapter in life, offering the gift of time and freedom that was often scarce during one’s working years. However, this transition can also be incredibly challenging for many. The routine and structure of a career often provide a sense of purpose and identity. In the absence of these external cues, it becomes crucial to cultivate a strong sense of self-worth.

Self-love during retirement means prioritizing physical, mental, and

mental health. Activities like meditation, journaling, reading, or learning a new skill can strengthen your cognitive function. Furthermore, self-love involves cultivating a positive relationship with yourself. This means acknowledging accomplishments, embracing personal growth, and forgiving yourself for past mistakes. Retirement offers the opportunity to let go of your old self that you may not be fully happy with and to focus on authenticity. Reinvent yourself fully or not at all; it’s up to you! With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, let’s not forget the importance of extending love inward. Retirement is a celebration of life well lived and a commitment to making the most of the golden years with a heart full of love. This Valentine’s Day, let’s remember to shower ourselves with the love and care we deserve.

emotional health. It means recognizing and honoring (perhaps new) personal needs, desires, and dreams. Engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment, such as hobbies, traveling, or just relaxing, becomes paramount; this intentional focus on self-care can lead to a retirement experience that is worth all the effort you’ve put in throughout your career. Prioritizing good health with regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep is a method of self-love that will ensure your golden years continue to be golden. Taking time for these preventive and proactive healthcare measures will help you take advantage of this newfound freedom with lesser or even without major health issues. You can’t travel or invest in hobbies if you’re always sick. This self-care also extends to your
