The book’s editors, Ibrahim Fraihat and Isak Svensson, argue that the problem of armed conflicts and their increasing complexities in the Arab world have not yet received regional institutional responses for conflict management. The book serves two interrelated purposes: (a) to use current scientific research and knowledge on international mediation to analyse mediation processes in the Arab world and enhance their understanding. (Cases in the Arab world have mostly been analysed so far through reports and research that do not engage with theoretical frameworks and perspectives.) (b) to employ insights derived from the region to propel mediation research forward. Keywords: Mediation, Conflict, Diplomacy, the Arab world, Crisis.
