The mission of the Career Development, Internship and Job Services Office at Hagerstown Community College is to facilitate student learning and career development in the areas of career exploration, career planning and decision making; experiential education through internships; and, job services programs.

Career Assessment Tools • Focus 2 Career – self-assessments that match interests and strengths to occupations, and degree programs to careers.

The Internship and Job Services Office provides the following services to students and alumni:

Internship Coordination Process Step 1: Submit internship application and resume. Step 2: Meet with Internship Coordinator, review resume, meet with Internship Faculty Supervisor, and discuss potential internship sites. Step 3: Contact internship site and submit resume. Step 4: Interview with internship site and complete learning contact and internship forms.

• Traitify – a 2-minute personality assessment links results to HCC degree/certificate programs.

• O*Net – Interest Profiler & Occupation Search tool to discover work activities and occupations that match one’s interests. Career Exploration Resources • Candid Career: Explore Careers – short career advice videos to explore career options and gain information about jobs by industry, career titles, and college majors. • Firsthand Career Library – connect with experienced mentors, review company rankings and profiles, find jobs and internships, access career guides and advice. Career Readiness Tools • Big Interview – learn and practice interview skills to interview with confidence and success. • Candid Career: Get Hired – short career advice videos by industry professionals to learn how to succeed at work, learn what employers are looking for in candidates, and learn about resume writing, interviewing skills, and networking.

Internships

An internship can be the key to your success. An internship allows you to gain professional experience, network with others in your field, and enhance your skills while still in school. The Internship and Job Services Office can assist you in coordinating an internship aligned with your major. Internships can serve as a capstone for students to apply skills and knowledge they have learned through their studies at HCC. Students who have completed at least 50% of their program requirements and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher may be considered for an internship. The internship application can be found at www.hagerstowncc.edu/internships
