Meanwhile, internet-guided self-help is also available for PDT. In an RCT, Johansson et al. (2012) found internet-guided self-help based on PDT significantly more efficacious than a structured support intervention (psychoeducation and scheduled weekly contacts online) in patients with major depressive disorder. Treatment effects were maintained at 10-month followup. Psychodynamically oriented self-help was based on the concept by Silverberg (2005). Silverberg’s internet-guided self-help based on PDT is a promising approach, especially for patients who do not receive psychotherapy. Further studies should be carried out.
