INJURED IN A RIDESHARE ACCIDENT? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare services have exploded in popularity in recent years. It makes perfect sense; they’re a convenient, inexpensive alternative to traditional cabs. The rating systems on these apps enable us to vet our drivers and ensure we’re riding with trustworthy folks, but despite concession to safety, rideshare accidents do occasionally happen. If you’re injured as a passenger in one of these collisions, what recourse do you have? Determining liability depends on the circumstances of your crash. If the crash was your driver’s fault, you’ll be covered under their company’s liability policy, which sets damages at a maximum of $1 million. This means that all damages related to your injuries are covered up to that $1 million cap. Those $1 million apply whether you’re a passenger, the driver of another car that collides with an on- duty driver, or a pedestrian struck by the rideshare vehicle. If you need to file a lawsuit for additional financial compensation beyond that limit, you file it directly against the other driver. Since rideshare drivers are considered independent contractors under the law, you can’t sue the company in the same way you could if they were considered employees.

If you’re in a rideshare accident, there are a few steps you should always take. Call 911, take photos of the scene, talk to any witnesses, record the driver’s name, take screenshots of the rideshare app and receipt on your phone, and seek medical attention (even if you’re not sure you need it). After you’re safe and sound, call an attorney. These situations can get complicated fast, and it’s important to act quickly to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve from the rideshare company. Give us a call — we’ll let you know your options and help you determine the best path forward.

ROASTED TURMERIC CAULIFLOWER

“TELL ME I’M AWESOME.”

When it comes to eating paleo, side dishes are almost always a bigger challenge than mains. If you’re in need of a flavorful vegetable dish, check out this recipe for spicy, savory cauliflower.

When you’re about to perform a potentially challenging task, research shows that if you visualize a random time you succeeded, you perform 2 1/2 times better. In contrast, when you think about times when you failed, you perform worse when trying to solve stressful problems. 1 Use this knowledge to your advantage in your relationship. You can support your sweetheart by simply reminding them of a time they were spectacular. They will rise to the occasion. Before your next big event or task, ask your spouse to reflect on a time when you were at your best and then have them share that memory with you.
