Our History

Kingsway Christian College was established in 1984 by four families who were seeking an education for their children based upon strong Christian beliefs and values. In 1983 a Constitution was drafted and an Association of interested parents was established. As news of the proposed school spread, a steering committee was formed to investigate the establishment of the new Christian school. In February 1984 (on the site of a Baptist church at Craigie) a Year 1-8 school was established with six teachers and one hundred and ten students. After purchasing eight acres of land in an area zoned light industrial twenty five kilometres north of Perth, the foundations were laid on 23 November 1984 and the first buildings erected. The buildings consisted of three permanent classroom blocks, a canteen, and undercover area and a transportable from the original Craigie site. Over the next two decades, a three-stage building programme was developed and implemented. A neighbouring property was purchased in 1986 which increased the site to seven hectares (approximately fifteen acres) and provided sufficient land for expansion. The College was expanded to offer Year 1-12 programmes, with the first students graduating in 1988. In 1991 the first multi-purpose built Primary block, comprising eight classrooms and a new canteen was constructed. Work in 1992 included an additional Science block in the Secondary school and refurbishment of the home economics area. In 1993 the Education Support Unit and an additional classroom were built. 2001 saw the completion of the Kingsway Centre: an administration, music, drama and gymnasium complex. In 2004 the College purchased an additional 6.53 hectares of adjacent land to facilitate further expansion. In June 2010 the new Commonwealth funded BER Primary school classroom block was officially opened by then Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. The project provided five classrooms plus an enclosed activity area and specialist music and art areas as well as refurbishment of the grounds. Today the College provides education from Kindergarten to Year 12, has an enrolment of approximately fourteen hundred students and employs about one hundred and sixty staff. In August 2012 a chip and putt practice facility was completed at the College for the use of the Golf Academy students. At the start of 2013 a new Science block was opened by the Chief Scientist of WA, consisting of six science labs, a science office and preparation area and an upgrade of the Home Economics and Media facilities was also completed during Term 1. A new six classroom block was opened at the start of the 2015 academic year and work on a new 900 seat Auditorium commenced at the start of 2016 and was completed for the start of Term 3 2017. Construction of the new Engineering and Technology Centre and the Media and Arts Centre together with the Kadadjin Maya-Maya Library was completed in 2024.

Our Mission Empowering and equipping students for life through Christ-centred education.

Our Vision In this vision, we are a school built on a strong foundation where there is a sense of community that teaches students what it means to bring ‘God’s kingdom to earth’. We are not driven by society but are renowned for placing Jesus at the centre of everything we do. In this vision, our students are excelling in their education because they are supported and nurtured individually, because they strive for excellence and develop their character. Our students leave our College with a sense of optimism about the future and what God is calling them to. Our students go into the world and serve to the best of their ability in whatever capacity they find themselves, reflecting the values of the College throughout their life. In this vision, our staff are inspired when working here, they are committed to academic excellence and continuously improving their skills and gifts. Our staff are supported and resourced to collaborate together and go above and beyond to bring out the best in themselves and those around them. In this vision, we have created a landscape that utilises its physical assets to enhance learning and development, where our technology and infrastructure supports creativity and innovation, where young minds are set free to see the world for all it can be. In this vision, our community recognises that it is stronger when it works together and is unified in its mission and focus; our community celebrates and finds strength in its diversity because its mission

is bigger than any one personality. Our families are excited to be part of the College; they are actively serving and contributing to make a difference. Our College thrives on bringing out the best in its people who go on to influence the world around, for the glory of God. In this vision, we are Kingsway Christian College.

Our Statement of Faith: One God eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The sovereignty of God in creation, providence, redemption, revelation and final judgment. The Divine inspiration of the original documents of the Bible (66 books); its entire trustworthiness, sufficiency and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death on the cross as our representative and substitute, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His mediatorial work and in His personal, visible return in power and glory. The sinfulness and guilt of all mankind, rendering them subject to God’s wrath and condemnation. Justification of the sinner by the Grace of God through personal faith in Christ alone, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit. The receiving and indwelling of the Holy Spirit at conversion, and His continuing work in the heart and life of the believer. The one holy universal church, the body of which Christ is the Head, to which all true believers belong. The resurrection and judgement of all mankind: the believer to life everlasting and the unbeliever to eternal damnation. Unity with Statement of Faith In the interests of harmony within the Association we seek to promote unity in accordance with our Statement of Faith. All other areas of doctrine or issues not contained within the Statement of Faith are covered by grace and are neither promoted nor denigrated within the Association or College.

Our Educational Philosophy Our teaching practice is founded on the belief that the teaching/learning experience is most effective when grounded in active positive student/teacher relationships. A teacher is much more than a fount of all knowledge, more than a facilitator, more than a provider of skills; but is rather, intentional and explicit in their teaching whilst being able to provide student choice and autonomy where appropriate; can scaffold the curriculum so it is accessible by students, and yet can provide the scope for extension where it is needed; is proficient with traditional pedagogies, but can also utilise modern technologies to motivate and excite students; and is adept both at closely mentoring/tutoring and stepping back to allow independent thought. Our staff recognise that teaching is both a science and an art, where professional discourse and collaboration are the norm for ongoing development within the classroom and across the College as a whole.
