I most admire Dean Quirino for being a trailblazer and a visionary. Those traits I also saw in my husband, also once a TIP student.

Nieves C. Villamin ’s family owns Eden Canyon Vineyard and Winery, the first Filipino-American-owned and -operated winery in the United States producing award-winning vintages. She was hired as an accountant at TIP soon after graduating. She was budget analyst at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, where she also taught non-credit Filipino lessons to Cal Poly students. She was TIP’s Outstanding Alumna in 2002 during TIP’s 40th founding celebrations and Cal Poly’s Outstanding Woman of the Year in February 2003. She recently published her Philippine memoirs in a book entitled Bittermelons and Mimosas .
