Papa had this burning determination to transform his students to become the best that they could be. For many, he was Tatang (father) and friend. His students learned the same lessons of grit and determination, and these they would live by to become successes on their own. He was an enabler who made possible, for countless poor but deserving students, the gift of a college education through TIP.

He believed that the best way to uplift and empower the Filipino youth was through technological education. Every graduate, every board-examination passer and topnotcher that the school produced were

affirmations of his vision to empower the Filipino youth through education.

As a school founder, his academic credentials were not exactly much to brag about, given that other school founders were proudly schooled abroad. But here again lies his uniqueness. He was homegrown, the product of the Mapua Institute of Technology for high school and the National University for college. He topped the Civil Engineer Board Exam in 1953. Former President Fidel Ramos had quipped, “I was only No. 8 behind Deming in that same board exam.”
