But again I think the best thing my best teachers did for me, aside from what they taught me, was that they made me want to become a teacher like them, holding forth with authority and passion on subjects they knew and loved. They did give me a choice—not just between becoming an English or an engineer- ing major, or becoming a teacher or not, but also between being a good one or a bad one. I hope I made the right choice.
