day I walked into Maryknoll again, into what was then the boarders’ home, into the sewing room and was surprised to see Sister Aquinata again. That’s when I realized how much I loved her, how much I had missed her. We hugged, laughed, talked, got along famously. We did business for a while. Best of all one night we drank scotch together. She never scolded me or said anything about my life. She just let me know that she, too, loved me back. Many years later I saw an obit for her. I felt sad that she had crossed over but I knew one day I would see her again—when I cross over. Until then I pay tribute to my beautiful giant white owl, so treasured, Sister Mary Aquinata, my fourth-year high- school teacher, my favorite teacher.

Barbara C. Gonzalez, Twee as she is known to many, worked for 33 years in advertising , both in creative and accounts. She taught creative writing. She became a watercolorist and had three solo exhibits. When she watches TV, she also knits and crochets. Now in her senior years, she makes jewelry. She loves everything she does, but when you sit her down and ask which she loves most, she breaks into a smile and says, “Writing! I think I do everything else well, but I do writing best.”
