MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR LIFE Get Out, Travel, and Explore!
Just the thought of vacation always makes me giddy. Travel has always been a big part of my life and plays a large role in who I am today. Some of my favorite memories are from past vacations. My wife and I have been married almost 40 years now, and together, we’ve traveled the world. Admittedly, since we are cozy in the comfort of our own home, we haven’t been on a trip in 12 years, but we reminisce often. The last trip we took, and one of our favorites, was to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in South America. We had so much fun being tourists, exploring the beaches, taking in the scenery, and getting tan. Speaking of scenery, one thing we did learn is that the locals must not like clothes very much. I’ll never forget it: There was a man much older than me — he had to have been in his 90s — and he had a giant beer belly. He was wearing a tiny little bathing suit and I watched in confusion as he waddled out to the ocean to go for a swim. Looking back, I wished that I had taken a photo, but it will always be branded into my mind.
rides, been through countless different airports, and taken buses, trains, and rented cars. Traveling is in my blood — I love it.
In 1974, before I met my wife, I was part of a team sponsored by Rotary International and was lucky enough to visit Japan for four months on an island called Shikoku, just across the harbor from Hiroshima. This was a bit of a culture shock at first, but one of the most eye-opening and adventurous times of my life. I ate different foods, learned new ways of interacting with others, and saw so many different ways of life. A family took me into their home during my time there, something that’s uncommon in Japanese culture. I’ll never forget the rush every single day as I experienced something new and exhilarating.
With so much exploring out of the way, I still have a few destinations on my bucket list. I’d love to make it to Peru to experience Machu Pichu firsthand or to Amsterdam to embrace some of my Dutch heritage. I hear that the food in Peru is to die for and the scenery in Amsterdam is unreal — they say

HOW A WWII CAT SURVIVED 3 SHIP SINKINGS: THE STORY OF UNSINKABLE SAM
You’ve heard the saying, “Cats have nine lives,” and while there are countless tales of cats falling from trees or high-above windows, one cat put this theory to the test, earning himself the name “Unsinkable Sam.” Sam’s original name was “Oscar,” and his legacy began aboard the Bismarck, one of the two first-class Nazi battleships in World War II. The Bismarck (with Sam) was launched on Feb. 14, 1939, and soon after engaged in battle with The Prince of Wales, an Allied battleship. The Nazi ship was severely damaged in this battle and ultimately sunk. Only 118 of the 2,200 crew members survived, plus Sam.
wooden plank and floated safely to the nearby shore of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. British service members who found him ashore put two and two together and realized the cat — the very one their fellow servicemen saved in 1939 — was the only survivor of HMS Cossack, earning him the nickname “Unsinkable Sam.” The group in Gibraltar was from the HMS Ark Royal crew, and of course, they loaded Sam aboard when it was time to launch. But as Sam’s luck would have it, a torpedo struck the HMS Ark Royal just a month later, leaving him once again clinging to a floating plank near a boat launch back in Gibraltar.
The British destroyer HMS Cossack found Sam floating on a board hours later, and they promptly scooped him up and welcomed him aboard. Sam had officially switched sides to the Allied forces. Now on the right side of history, Sam lived with the British crew for the next few months as they performed convoy escort duties — until a torpedo struck the HMS Cossack in October 1941, killing all 139 members aboard. Except for Sam. Once again, Sam clung to a
Luckily, Sam’s boating days were over, and he was honorably transferred to the position of “mouse hunter” in the building of the governor-general in Gibraltar. Eventually, the British restationed their favorite floating feline to a “home for sailors” in Belfast, where he lived for the rest of his days until his peaceful passing in 1955.
Sam’s story may not officially prove cats have nine lives, but it makes at least three seem likely!
Dozens of skin care devices claim to prevent or reduce wrinkles, improve the appearance of acne scars and fine lines, and help firm and rejuvenate your skin. One device that’s currently trending is a dermaroller — but is it effective? What is a dermaroller? A dermaroller is a tiny handheld wheel with tons of short, fine needles. It’s meant to puncture the skin and promote collagen — which, in turn, should improve the texture of your skin, reduce acne scars, stimulate new blood vessels, and prevent wrinkles. Does it really work? According to a 2022 study from the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, dermarolling is an effective method to enhance the look and feel of your skin. In their study with 32 subjects, 73% saw improvement in the appearance of their skin in 30 days, and 68% saw considerable progress in 90 days. Almost 94% of participants saw high levels of improvement in their wrinkles, around 88% were satisfied with the results, and about 80% would recommend dermarolling to loved ones. How do you use a dermaroller? First, you want to wash your face and remove any oils or dirt. Then, gently hold the skin taut (not loose or flabby) and gently roll the device along the skin. You can use a dermaroller on your forehead, cheeks, under the eyes, and around Redefine Your Skincare With Dermarolling!
the mouth — just remember to be gentle! Finally, use hyaluronic acid serums on your face afterward to calm redness and help your skin repair.
This device is not just for your face; you can dermaroll your entire body! You can use it on your chest, stomach, legs, arms, back, feet, and hands. Dermarolling can also help with burn scars, stretch marks, dark spots, cellulite, and surgery scars. You will need a dermaroller with a needle length based on your desired result. Therefore, before purchasing a dermaroller, contact your health care provider or dermatologist for more information. They can help determine which size needle you need, share what brands they recommend, and provide tips on how to use the device correctly.

Nobody wants to live in a messy home, but staying organized is often easier said than done, especially when you have kids. Spending weekend after weekend cleaning up messes made throughout the week can get exhausting. Thankfully, you can implement some quick organizational hacks that will help you reduce your cleaning time. Make use of Command Strips. Many areas in our homes could better utilize space. Command Strips, or double- sided tape, can add more space and reduce clutter in closets, pantries, and cabinets. Place Command Strips on a desktop file holder and stick it to the inside door of your closets and cabinets. This will give you a new area where you can store toiletries, aluminum foil, or just about anything else that will fit. If you have a standing paper towel holder, another helpful Command Strip hack is to place the strips on the bottom so it doesn’t slide away when you use it. It only takes a couple of seconds to fix. Create a welcoming entryway. When people walk into your house, they need somewhere to hang their coats. After you walk your dog, you need a place to put their leash. Having an area by your door to hang things will help reduce clutter and make your house look nicer. And you can easily create a space for this. Buy a 12–24-inch picture ledge and a handful of hooks. Drill holes, affix the ledge to your wall, and screw the hooks into the bottom of the shelf. Now you have somewhere to hang things and display pictures or art to spruce up your entryway. Free up your kitchen cabinets. If you keep your bowls, plates, and other dishes in a cabinet, how do you have them organized? If you want to make the most of your space, invest in a plate organizer. Placing it in your cabinet will allow you to stack your different types of dishes in one area, freeing up space for other items. Why Lose Weekends Cleaning? Implement These Hacks for a Tidier Home!

KEEP YOURSELF SAFE WHILE TRAVELING ALONE
Use the deadbolt. If the door in your room comes equipped with a deadbolt, use it! This extra safety measure keeps even those with a key from entering your room without your knowing! Share the hotel information. Let your family and friends know where you are staying! Provide them with the hotel name, address, and phone number in case an emergency arises! Traveling solo is a thrilling experience, but it comes with some extra steps to stay safe! Trust your instincts and use these tips to ensure your trip goes down in the memory books as safe and exciting!
Traveling alone can be a memorable and adventurous experience — it’s a great way to step outside your comfort zone and continue learning about yourself. While solo travel is chock full of exciting perks, staying alone in a hotel can be dangerous if you aren’t careful to take certain safety precautions. The next time you take a trip by yourself, keep these tips in mind! Check in the smart way. When you check in to your hotel, always ask for two room keys — this way, hotel staff and anyone else in earshot will automatically assume someone else is traveling with you. If they ask how many guests will be staying with you, don’t admit you are alone. If you have the option, request a room that isn’t on the ground floor, as research shows they are the easiest to break into! Inspect your room. As soon as you enter the room, make a quick sweep to ensure no one is present in closets, in the shower, or under the bed and that nothing appears to be amiss. It’s always best to be safe rather than sorry! Keep your eyes peeled. Any time you leave your room, even if it’s just to scope out the vending machines, be alert for anyone watching or following you, and always keep your room number discreet. If you ever feel like someone is following you, get off on a different floor and avoid going to your room.
