SIGHTS OF THE CITY Barcelona is such a prime tourist destination it almost needs no
introduction, but delegates who choose to extend their stay may like to check out the following attractions: The basilica of the Sagrada Familia: This magnificent site has been under construction since 1874 and is one of renowned architect Anton Gaudí’s most famous works. Casa Milà: Popularly known as La Pedrera (the stone quarry), in reference to its rough-hewn appearance, this building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984 and now houses an acclaimed cultural centre. Las Ramblas: The quintessential Barcelona landmark, this tree-lined boulevard runs through the heart of the city centre and is home to an impressive array of street performers, as well as being a popular spot for shopping. Picasso Museum: The museum’s permanent collection consists of more than 4,200 works by the celebrated artist and mostly exhibits works from Picasso’s formative years, between 1895 and 1904. Camp Nou: The stadium has been FC Barcelona’s home since it was officially opened on 24 September 1957 at a cost of some €1.73 billion; privately guided tours of the grounds, the interactive museum and trophy cabinet are available.
