M3 AND ME
M3 PT TAUGHT ME LESSONS I’LL REMEMBER FOREVER THE POWER OF EMPATHY
treatment. Having the opportunity to connect with patients on a deeper level impacts the service they receive! Talking about your injuries and going through the exercises can be a vulnerable experience. But working with someone you can talk to helps ease concerns and, ultimately, enables you to obtain even better treatment and results! Because of my time here, no matter where I end up in the future, I will always nurture my relationships with patients — it can make a huge difference in many ways. Now, I know what you’re thinking: If I want to become a physician’s assistant, why am I working at a PT clinic? For one, working at a PT office fulfills my clinical hours. But most importantly, I love learning about new methods, fields of expertise, and how the body works. I want to know a little about many things rather than knowing a lot about one subject. The insight I gain about how the body works and the PT techniques I can use will aid me when I become a physician’s assistant. I will have tons of background knowledge regarding different practices that can help me, other doctors, and patients who receive treatment. There’s no such thing as obtaining too much information — and I’m excited to see what I learn and discover in the future.
something I’ve never experienced until now! Before working at M3, I attended UCLA and pursued a physician’s assistant career. I interned at hospitals while in school, and although it was a great way to receive hands- on experience, I didn’t interact much with patients. I didn’t know any patients on a first- name basis and mainly worked with doctors, CNAs, and other interns.
Hello, everyone! My name is Brandon, and I’m a PT clinical assistant at M3’s West LA office. In September, I will be celebrating two years at M3! It’s crazy to think my time here has already flown by — sometimes, it feels like I just started, while other times, it feels like I’ve been here forever. What I mean is that I’m learning new things daily. Whenever I assist a patient with their exercises, provide treatment with ice or hot packs, help patients check in, or file paperwork, I discover something new. My colleagues are a great resource of information, and I can’t thank them enough for sharing their insight with me and helping me become a better PT assistant and human being. Although every day is a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn, at the same time, it feels like I’ve been at M3 for more than two years. Everyone here is so friendly and personable — both team members and staff! I know every patient I work with by name and connect with them on a deeper level. Because of my relationship with you, it feels like I’ve been here since the beginning! How attentive and nurturing M3 is to its patients is what surprised me the most when I first started working here. Seeing how caring the physical therapists, PT aides, coordinators, and administration are to everyone who walks through our doors is amazing — it’s
It’s crazy to think my time here has already flown by — sometimes, it feels like I just started, while other times, it feels like I’ve been here forever.
But after I graduated from UCLA, I still needed to complete my clinical hours before applying to graduate school. So, I looked online and found M3! I honestly believe I was meant to be here because I found their job listing around 7 p.m. and the deadline to apply was 9 p.m. that same night — I think it was more than a coincidence that I opened my laptop, searched for listings, and found M3 before the deadline! I’m so happy with how things played out because I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Have you ever walked into a home in your neighborhood and been surprised at how similar it looks to your house? Usually, the same contractor will build every house in a subdivision, so the homes end up having the exact same layouts and features. Here are four ways to get rid of that “cookie-cutter” feel in your home. 4 EASY WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME STAND OUT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Install new light fixtures. New light fixtures can transform a room and make it seem bigger, especially if they blend well with other aesthetic changes you’ve made. Paint all interior doors. The difference that a fresh coat of paint can make to your home is unbelievable. Pick out the color you like and apply it to your doors.
Replace kitchen hardware. Adding new cabinet handles — or just replacing the cabinets entirely — will breathe new life into your kitchen. Make the bathroom pop. Replace the toilet paper holder and towel bars with a design that matches your style, then add a colorful shower curtain, towels, and other decor.

HOW YOU CAN PREVENT ACCIDENTAL INJURIES
become difficult as you age. To help make things easier, install railings near the toilet and inside the shower or bath. You can also purchase a raised toilet seat if you or a loved one has difficulty using the bathroom. Visit your friends at M3 PT. If you don’t drive your car regularly and it remains parked most of the time, it won’t run as smoothly. Likewise, your body needs movement and exercise to stay strong to prevent falls. Improving your balance and replicating movements that cause you to become unstable and potentially fall is the best prevention you can take. Our physical therapists can show you different stretches and exercises to help you build up key muscles, which will help prevent accidental falls from happening. about you and your safety, here are three tips to prevent accidental falls from occurring.
Rearrange your home so it’s easily accessible.
Did you know that most accidental falls happen in the comfort of your own home? Everyday household items such as couches, chairs, dressers, rugs, and other furniture could be potential tripping hazards! To prevent this from happening, ensure your frequently used pathways are clear of clutter. Remove any furniture, chords, or rugs that could be in the way of your bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and front door. It may also be beneficial to install night lights or motion sensor lights in hallways or entryways so you or a loved one don’t trip over something in the night. Install railings and other items. Entering and exiting your bathtub or shower could be a potential fall hazard. Remaining stable as you lift one leg inside the tub can
If you’ve gone to the supermarket recently, you may have noticed all the summer decor has left the shelves and been replaced with pumpkins, wreaths, and other fall items. While the fall season may be slowly approaching each day, accidental falls can occur year- round. According to the National Council on Aging, 1 in 4 Americans 65 or older will fall annually — older adults report about 36 million falls every year. Several patients seek treatment because of accidental falls, and some have shared their stories. Because we understand how severe slips and falls can be and because we care

THE ROAD TO RECOVERY How Physical Therapy Emerged as a Vital Practice
transform their lives — despite the circumstances they face. Until the 1950s, physical therapy was primarily known for being used in hospitals and performing massages and various exercises as treatment. But during the ’50s, physical therapists started conducting manipulative therapies to help patients with joint and spinal pain. This was also when physical therapy was used outside hospitals and in outpatient clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers, and other care facilities. Throughout the years, physical therapists have implemented many services to help treat patients’ needs. We now have certified specialists for various services or practices, surgeons, advanced technology, new diagnostic tests, and dozens of other life-changing tools we can use on a daily basis. We’ve come a long way since our formation! By celebrating World Physical Therapy Day, we are reminded of the amazing things physical therapy has done over the years. We’ve helped people regain their independence and confidence, assisted those recovering from surgeries or illnesses, and provided solutions to combat pain. But most importantly, we’ve helped and encouraged others to keep fighting and giving their best.
Happy World Physical Therapy Day, everyone! This day is about shining a light on physical therapy’s key role in keeping people healthy, fit, and independent. In honor of this holiday, we wanted to share with you the history of physical therapy and how we got to where we are today.
So, grab your history books and notebook — class is now in session!
In 435 B.C., a Greek physician named Hippocrates started advocating for the use of various physical therapy techniques to help patients overcome pain and discomfort. However, the practice didn’t begin to take shape until the late 1800s when doctors needed a way to treat bone disorders throughout Europe. It wasn’t until the onset of World War I that physical therapy began gaining momentum and became known as a health care practice. Physical therapy was used to treat wounded soldiers and children suffering from disabilities during the war and also helped treat diseases such as polio. Because of the impact physical therapy had on soldiers in WWI, in 1924, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) was established. The organization aimed to help people move forward and

Use the deadbolt. If the door in your room comes equipped with a deadbolt, use it! This extra safety measure keeps even those with a key from entering your room without your knowing! Share the hotel information. Let your family and friends know where you are staying! Provide them with the hotel name, address, and phone number in case an emergency arises! Traveling solo is a thrilling experience, but it comes with some extra steps to stay safe! Trust your instincts and use these tips to ensure your trip goes down in the memory books as safe and exciting!

Traveling alone can be a memorable and adventurous experience — it’s a great way to step outside your comfort zone and continue learning about yourself. While solo travel is chock-full of exciting perks, staying alone in a hotel can be dangerous if you aren’t careful to take certain safety precautions. The next time you take a trip by yourself, keep these tips in mind! Check in the smart way. When you check in to your hotel, always ask for two room keys — this way, hotel staff and anyone else in earshot will automatically assume someone else is traveling with you. If they ask how many guests will be staying with you, don’t admit you are alone. If you have the option, request a room that isn’t on
Inspect your room. As soon as you enter the room, make a quick sweep to ensure no one is present in closets, in the shower, or under the bed and that nothing appears to be amiss. It’s always best to be safe rather than sorry! Keep your eyes peeled. Any time you leave your room, even if it’s just to scope out the vending machines, be alert for anyone watching or following you, and always keep your room number discreet. If you ever feel like someone is following you, get off on a different floor and avoid going to your room.
