SECURING JEWISH EDUCATION

A Herzlia education is a privilege that not everyone can afford. One in six Jewish pupils who attend HERZLIA received financial assistance in 2018. Our vision requires us to raise the necessary funds to meet these needs, which makes the role and work of The Herzlia Foundation Trust more critical than ever before. There is a common misconception that full fee payingparents subsidise childrenwhoseparents cannot afford the school fees, there is also thinkin_g that The Foundation is adequately funded.- Both these are myths. The reality is that bursaries are funded from the income received from The Herzlia Foundation Trust's endowment and the United Jewish Campaign (UJC ) , and not from fees. Income from the Foundation s endowment only provides for a portion of the annual cost of bursaries. In 2020, UNITED HERZLIA SCHOOLS will be celebrating their 80th birthday. Each one of you we hope will be part of this milestone celebration. More details to follow. In truth, the Foundation_plays a pivotal role in the future existence of HERZLIA and Jewish education in Cape Town. Those people who choose to give their money to education are very special, to each one of our incredible supporters and generous philanthropists, thank you for choosing to donate your money to securing Jewish education. Your commitment and generous support continues to make Jewish children's dreams come true. "Alone we can do so little, togetherwe can do so much." - Helen Keller With warmest regards

2018 was an exceptional year for The Herzlia Foundation Trust. We continued creating awareness about the work we do whilst at the same time workin9 strateg_ically in order to meet the ever increasing needs in securing Jewish education at HERZLIA. In this, our fourth issue of the Heart of Herzlia, you will see exactly how your donations are utilised and read more about other ways you can make a real difference in the life of a Jewish child.

I was fortunate to attend a world-class fundraising conference - The IFC Resource Alliance Fundraising Conference in Amsterdam in October 2018. Aptly named #togetherwecan, 1500 fundraisers from over 64 countries spent four incredible days together, sharing, learning and debating_ the challenges and demands of the work we do. The opportunity and outcomes were invaluable. On page 7 our outgoing Trustee, Philip Krawitz, shares his personal journey as an exceptional Trustee of The Herzlia Foundation Trust. Over the years (. Philip has led by true example encompassing the u timate traits of a true mensch. In his various roles within the Foundation, Philip continues to be a dedicated lay leader, proud friend and committed and generous benefactor to The Herzlia Foundation Trust. We appreciate his exemplary support and look forward to his continued involvment in the work we do, in a more unofficial role.
