Imperial - Engineering Manager

• Develop a structure for reviewing new technologies as they become available and make appropriate recommendations where these may benefit Imperial College. • Represent the Engineering team at senior level as necessary to interact with senior staff throughout Imperial College, or externally. • Responsible for agreeing the building engineering services design principles and ensuring, in conjunction with the Head of Maintenance and Head of Projects, that these are implemented in accordance with Imperial College’s strategies and standards. • Undertake the duties of a Design Engineer (discipline as appropriate to training) where required. • Where required employ the services of a consultant to assist with validation and survey works where required. • Liaise with the energy management and environmental sustainability teams to establish good practice and improved long-term value for money in terms of services design and minimising life cycle costs. • Ensure sustainable, low carbon schemes are implemented and energy use minimised by good design and installation practices. • Ensure that systems designed and installed are maintainable and maintenance teams are appropriately trained on new technology. • Take a leading role and provide technical support as required for mechanical and electrical engineering infrastructure to assist with future capacity or upgrade planning. • Have a good understanding of the differing forms of building services installations and stay abreast of developments in the industry particularly with regards to sustainability.

• Manage the team resources to attend Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meetings. Ensure that the selected team members are adequately briefed on the proposals to be presented. • Management of project-based activities of the Engineering Team. Coordinate the team in troubleshooting and diagnostics, including issues arising through the commissioning process. • Hold regular reviews with the Head of Engineering, Energy and Environment to report on the activities and progress of the Engineering Team. • Manage the team ensuring that they are adequately trained, develop their knowledge and skills where appropriate. • To undertake regular review assessments of the team performance and carry out reviews as per the Annual Review Conversation (ARC) guidance. Health and Safety • Promote safe working methods, observe statutory regulations, codes of practice, CDM complianceand all matters relating to Health, Safety related issues. • Ensure that there is a continual review within the team, of Health and Safety issues, and make recommendations for amending the Imperial College’s Health and Safety Policies where appropriate. Communication • Coordinate and contribute to the teams monthly report by reporting on the Engineering Teams work. • Assess how changes in Building Services legislation and policy need to be implemented within Imperial College. Other • Deputise where necessary for the Head of Engineering, Energy and Environment as required. • Undertake any other related duties which may be required in managing the Engineering Team • Undertake continuing professional development and participate in technical seminars and training initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic • Maintain a technical resource within the Property Team, for mechanical, electrical, fire, security and controls. • Make policy recommendations regarding technical issues, services strategies and environmental strategies, and ensure their implementation when approved. • To lead the team in the development of common

standards of performance, technical and materials specification for the efficient operation and maintenance of engineering services installations, including consulting with the Head of Maintenance. Make recommendations for implementation. • Establish arrangements that allow access to current statutory regulations, British and European Standards, and other regulatory documents.

Management • Manage the team resources to attend

Engineering Review Meetings (ERM). Ensure that the team review and record comments as per the ERM terms of reference.
