THE KEY TO SUCCESS: PLANNING
Welcome to summer! A favorite topic this time of year is summer plans. I love hearing and visiting about upcoming adventures near and far. It’s impossible to restrain the excitement and anticipation built from hours, days, maybe even weeks or months of planning. While there may be a few free spirits hitting the open road and leaving the trip to chance, the need to get the most out of precious vacation time is too great for most. You’ve probably heard that Franklin is also in planning season with the focus on achieving the 2026 vision. The vision of Safe, Guide, Wow, and Strive has been shared and discussed through various huddles over the past few months. Now comes the exciting step of planning how to make the vision reality. Planning is exciting because there are so many possibilities for how to achieve the vision. New and creative ideas can come from anyone. The destination is set, but how we get there is up to the team. Stephen Covey, in his book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” says, “Begin with the end in mind.” The 2026 vision does this at a high level, company-wide view. The effort is now focused on defining this vision by location and shaping the mental image. What does Pocatello look like as a standard of safety for other organizations? What does it look like at Caldwell when team members are working together to solve problems? How would the day to day at Elko look while working to grow market share each year? With your location’s vision defined, the next step in planning is to identify issues that need solutions in order to realize the vision.
Issues can be a problem, obstacle, or barrier. Take care to focus on identifying issues, not solutions just yet. “We need more people” is a possible solution. “We often struggle to meet the schedule” or “We can’t build enough trusses for
our customers” are issues. Ask “why” of the problem to find the true issue. “Why is the schedule missed?” “Why ...?” will most likely need to be asked a few times. With the end in mind and barriers identified, the final major step of planning is to prioritize the most urgent issues. Impactful solutions to urgent issues will pave the way for faster and greater successes in the future. It’s no accident that Safe and Guide are the beginning milestones on the vision road map. Successes here set the stage for faster and bigger wins with Wow and Strive. Good news! Planning is just as valuable personally as it is at work. The importance is easily seen through the financial education efforts underway at Franklin. Financial education provides a perfect launchpad to developing and planning your personal vision. What is your personal vision and what are your goals to achieve it? Here is a quick example to illustrate the planning process and impact: Vision — I want to take my family to Disneyland next spring. Issue — I don’t have the money and don’t want to borrow money for the trip. Rock #1 — Create a family budget for the trip. #2 — Create a family monthly expense budget to save and pay for the trip before going. As employee owners, it is our responsibility to practice and use planning tools often. Planning for both the known and unknown challenges in life makes you a successful leader and an inspiration to those around you. I look forward to hearing about your plans soon.

EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP FUN The Employee Ownership event of the year so far was the Cornhole Tournament held May 21 in Twin Falls. Teams from all locations were vying for the honors. We had great food, an electric atmosphere, and nearly 250 people in attendance. The winners for 2022 were The Minions, Abel Lima Sr. and Chuey Heredia of the Boise Truss Plant. The Minions also won best costume. For winning the tournament, Abel and Chuey won $500. In a close final match, The Minions beat Abel Bermudez and Noah Davis of Caldwell. The second-place winners received $250. Cornhole was a big hit this year. Start practicing now for an event bigger event next spring.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: JACKSON THEBERGE
Highlighting One of Our Best
As Steve Jobs once said, “Great things in business are never done by one person.” Here at Franklin Building Supply, this could not be truer as we have an incredible team in place that helps our company stand out from the rest. Jackson Theberge, one of our production managers, is an incredible asset to our company, a pleasure for his employees to work together with, and is notorious for always putting our clients first! His favorite aspect of the job is coming to work each day and having the opportunity to work closely with such a great team of people. LEAN, a series of five principles designed to improve efficiency in the workplace, plays a large role in Jackson’s day-to-day duties by implementing a strategy to keep everything organized and readily available to improve efficiency for our customers. When Jackson isn’t working, he enjoys time spent with family and friends, riding dirt bikes, hunting, and fishing. The great outdoors has always been his favorite place to have fun! Jackson, we appreciate all of your hard work and thank you for helping us to make Franklin Building Supply the best for our customers!
