16. Humility “Serving the Lord with all humility of mind” (Acts 20:19). We may find professors and ministers, evangelists and workers, missionaries and teachers, in whom the gifts of the Spirit are many and Inanifest, and who are the channels of blessing to multi tudes, but of whom, when the testing time comes, . . . it is only too plainly manifest that the grace of humility, as an abiding characteristic, is scarcely to be seen. All tends to confirm the lesson that humility is one of the chief and highest graces.—Andrew Murray. 17. Working It Out “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil. 2:12). In this confidence, though with fear and trembling, let us work out our sal vation. Seeking the aid of the Holy Spirit, let us aim at perfection. Let every day see some sin crucified, some battle fought, some good done, some victory won; let every fall be followed

by a rise, and every step gained become not a resting place, but a new starting point for further progress. —Thomas Guthrie. 18. God’s Pattern for Me “See . . . . that thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount” (Heb. 8:5). There’s a pattern in the heavens of my life down here on earth. God, my Father, made the blue print, long before my time of birth. Every step of it was visioned, every thought and word and deed; Long before I had existence, He provided for my need. Why do I neglect my birthright, stum bling, bungling endlessly, When my Father on the mountain has my life planned out for me? Patiently He long has waited, Lover, Architect, and Friend; He would make my life successful; on His strength I may depend. —Lewis H. Jamison. 19. Putting the World In Its Place “The world was made by him, and the world knew him not”. (John 1:10). The Lord Jesus came to put the world in its right place, . . . to show that eter nity is a larger thing than time, that God is greater than man, that holiness is a more blessed thing than selfishness and sin. People do not like to hear these things, and it is a difficult thing to live in that position, giving the world its true place, but not more than it ought to have.—F. W. Ainley. 20. Life In Him “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” (Col. 3:3). What is your desire this day? Is it set upon heavenly things ? Do you desire liberty in close communion with God? Do you aspire to know the heights, and depths, and lengths, and breadths ? Then you must draw near to Jesus; you must get a clear sight of Him in His precious ness and completeness. He who under stands Christ receives an anointing from the Holy One, by which he knows all things.—Charles Haddon Spurgeon. 21. The Price of Truthfulness “Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates” (Zech. 8:16). One way of proving to the world that we love the Father is by absolute truth fulness. Oh, the lack of it among Chris tians today! What an amount of equivo cation there is, “shady” transactions in business, that silence which leaves peo ple to draw the wrong conclusion! . . . Truth has cost many a man his life. Jesus Himself said, “Ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth.” —H. E. Garjatt.
