24. What Is Seeking ? “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto.thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek” (Psa. 27:8). The seeking, to which God mercifully invites us, is but the turning of the direction of our desires to Him, the recognition of the fact that His face is more than all else to men, the recog nition that, whilst there are many that say, “Who will show us any good?” . . . they that turn the seeking into a prayer, and ask, “Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us,” will never ask in vain.—Alexander Maclaren. 25. Letting Down the Net “We have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing” (Lk. 5:5). You say you have been disappointed. You have tolled all night and have caught nothing. Go on to say: “Never theless at thy word I will let down the net.” Let it down now. Whatever be your trouble or the difficulties of your position—whether it be your money runs short, or whatever it be—let down your net into the deep. God has a marvelous purse of money. Even the fishes in the sea are His purse.—C. A. Fox. 26. God in the Darkness “He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies” (Psa. 18:11).

22. The Claims of the Law “God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Gal. 4:4, 5). Joy superlative it is to know that , . . legal satisfaction is forever taken out of our hands by Christ. Jesus Himself dealt, in the sinner’s interest, with the law, honoring its holy claims to the uttermost under the human conditions which He freely undertook, so that, by faith, the community between Jesus and sinners is real, the community of their debt on one side and Christ’s merit on the other side!—Robert G. Lee.* 23. The Healer of Hearts “He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives” (Lk. 4:18). Thou m a y e s t be broken-hearted, mourning the loss of one dearer to thee than thine own life, or thou mayest be a man of a tender heart, recently be reaved of the partner of thy joys and sorrows. Whoever thou art, or whatever thy sorrows may be, here is One ready and willing to . . . turn thy mourning into songs of praise by the gift of Him self.—John Vine Hall. *Reprinted from "Calvary" by special permis sion of Zondervan Pub. Our souls would know no rainbow, if our eyes knew naught of tears; ’Neath His glorious arch of promise, we go sailing through the years; The darkest night brings out the stars, the fog the harbor bell, And faith can hear above the waves our Pilot’s cheer—“All’s well.” —Selected. 27. True Self-Discovery “Thou . . . knowest not” (Rev. 3:17). True self-discovery never comes by searching ourselves and confessing to God the poverty we find there. That does not take us „very far into self- knowledge. True self-discovery always comes by submitting our life to the searching of God, that He may tell us the poverty He sees there. This, I be lieve, is an utter truth; this is the only thing that will save us from self-delu sion, for He has all the needed qualities of the searcher.—George Wilson. 28. Ordered Steps “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” (Psa. 37:23). Look for God’s thought in all the in cidents, circumstances, and objects of your daily life. Do not stop at the out ward; penetrate to the inward and eter nal. Beneath that bitter physical suffer ing there are stores of divine fortitude and grace. Beneath that trying dispen-

CHILDREN'S SEASIDE MISSION Sponsored by The Bible Institute of Los Angeles Incorporated A systematic effort to reach the thousands of children on Southern California beaches. Under the general direction of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon E. Hooker of the Bible Institute faculty, a choice group of Biola students thor oughly qualified in children’s and young people’s work plan to con duct a definitely evangelistic program during the summer weeks. They earnestly desire to point to the Lamb of God the thousands of unchurched children who flock to the beaches. YOUR PRAYERS AND YOUR GIFTS WILL MAKE THIS WORK POSSIBLE AND WILL FULFILL A TWOFOLD PURPOSE: 1. The money received will enable Biola students to reach the children on the beaches for Christ. . 2. The contributions to the beach work also will make pos sible the return of some of the students to the Institute in the fall. Please address all communications to : CHILDREN'S SEASIDE MISSION
