SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND STRESS BY ORGANIZING YOUR TAX DOCUMENTS
Now that the 2019 tax season has concluded, give yourself peace of mind by organizing your documents and deciding what you need to keep and what you can securely dispose of. Organizing during this period of the tax cycle can save you time and stress down the road. Here are some guidelines for how to organize. INDIVIDUAL DOCUMENTS The IRS recommends that individuals keep supporting documents for at least three years after filing their return. This can include bills, credit card statements, invoices, proofs of payment, and proofs of donations. The three-year guideline also applies to property sold in the last three years. This may include proof of costs related to a home purchase or home improvement project, stocks, investments, and individual retirement account transactions. BUSINESS OWNERS Business owners should keep all of their employment tax records for at least four years after the tax is due or is paid — whichever comes later. They’ll also want to hang on to records relating to gross
receipts, expenses, assets, and proofs of purchase. These may include receipt books, invoices, cash register tape, and sales slips. The records can also extend to databases, saved files, and emails. CREATING A SYSTEM Dedicate a portion of a closet or invest in a small filing cabinet to store your tax-related documents. Use labeled, hanging files organized by year and category to make documents easy to find. If you ever do receive a notice from the IRS, you’ll be able to respond quickly since you'll know exactly where the information is. Once the suggested timeline is up on those documents, you may want to shred them to ensure your personal information is kept secure. Speaking of shredding, our Shred Day 2020 is planned for Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We are looking forward to this event, and it’s exciting to have it on the calendar. As the date gets closer, we’ll keep you posted with all the information you’ll need to safely dispose of your outdated tax documents and do a service for the environment while you’re at it.

RESTAURANT-STYLE FETTUCCINE ALFREDO
Ingredients
Directions
1. In a large pot, bring 6 quarts of generously salted water to a boil. 2. In a large, deep skillet, while the water heats, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant and sizzling (about 2 minutes). 3. In a bowl, whisk heavy cream and egg yolk until blended and pour into garlic butter. 4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir until hot, not boiling. Keep warm on low heat. 5. In the large pot, cook pasta until al dente. (The pasta will float once it’s done.) Reserve about 1/2 cup pasta water and drain pasta. Pour hot pasta into cream mixture and toss to coat on low heat. 6. Add Parmigiano-Reggiano and keep tossing gently until cream is mostly absorbed. If the sauce is absorbed too much, toss with extra pasta water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. 7. Serve with parsley and a squeeze of lemon.
