shall “see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” (Lk. 21 :27). It is of intense interest to know that, from a chronolog ical point of view, all the Bible figures we possess point straight to the days in which we live as the days in which we may expect the decisive battle between our returning Lord and all who set themselves in array against Him. The greatest scholars of the early Christian church, as well as those among the Jews, believed implicitly that six thou sand years of human history would be followed by the reign of the Messiah. Those years have about run their course. Again, Christian scholars long have divided man’s, day into three great periods—Adam to Abraham, Abraham to the cross, and from the cross to the reign of the Messiah. The International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia says: “It is left to a comparison of the Biblical data with one

A C ommunist A necdote A missionary who recently escaped from Russia, in a letter printed in The Friend o f Missions, relates that shortly before he left Russia “the following anecdote was current among the communists” : Stalin, the present "Dictator of Russia," had dreamed that he had met with Lenin, “the deceiver of humanity.” The latter asked Stalin how it was going on with the Five- Year Plan. “Oh, very good,” answered Stalin, “the population is all on my side.” “And how will it be afterward?” asked Lenin again. “Oh, I shall arrange another Five-Year Plan!” “And with whom will the population be then?” asked Lenin. “But, certainly with me I” answer Stalin. “No,” said Lenin, “you are wrong! In another five years, all the people will be with met"

There may be more truth in this anec dote than the communists realize. Of course, the thought of the communist is that millions of noncommunists may per ish during the course of the present god less Five-Year Program— but what of it, just so communists may continue to live and rule ? Communists, even as Lenin him self, make no secret of their feeling that Russia would be better off if all but com munists were on a bone pile. “We shall not bother about hundreds of millions of people,” they state quite frankly. “The sure word of prophecy” might enlighten these fanatical murderers of millions. It is Gog and the armies of Gog—not the help less innocents, terrorized by these murder ers—who will stack high upon the bone pile in Megiddo’s valley. God at least will be kind, kind enough to gather the bones of Gog and his allies and provide buriers (Ezek. 39:15), that is, some inexpensive undertakers for His present-day blas phemers ! Thus endeth the most audacious and appalling experiment in human history —a war on God! 1 9 3 7 ? This frightful climax seems to have been set by Gog himself to take place in 1937. Only in the Soviet program, it is God, not Gog, who must tread the bone pile pathway. We sometimes wonder if Soviet statesmen (?) ever read history. Nobody but the prince of superidiots be lieves that the living God is going to “walk the plank” at the command of some filthy, blood-smeared Bolshevik. Nevertheless, this date—1937—becomes interesting in that it is the date set by the foes of all that is divine for a final decision between God and Gog. We would not bring the doctrine of our Lord’s return into disrepute by disregard ing what is written: “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power” (Acts 1 :7). Nevertheless, we were distinctly told by the Master that when certain “things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for . . . know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand” (Lk. 21 :28, 31—“nigh” the hour when they
