were tied by a thick rope and suspended over a wadded quilt which took the place of a saddle; on top of the rope I sat. The trip was made still more interesting by a little habit that the donkey had of pulling both his front legs out of the mud at the same time, throwing me back over his tail. We jogged on for two hours like this, until suddenly a turn in the road showed the twenty li village ahead and my twenty-odd fellow passengers. There they were, stranded, with only three donkeys to be hired among them. You should have seen the faces of those men when they saw me! “Where has she, a lonely, stranded, for eign girl, secured a donkey?” commented one man. “Surely she could not have staggered anywhere with that large suitcase, certainly not twenty li," added another. The donkey driver said he had brought me every step of the way. "Is it possible? Where Chinese gentle men have failed to secure a donkey, has a mere girl succeeded?” We left them, still wondering, and con tinued our ride in the boiling hot sun. Four more hours on that moving, rubbing rope, and at last the railway! It was indeed a joy to find an inn and much-needed water. But again I lifted my heart to God in prayer. I did not have much money, and I feared that I would not have enough to pay for both the donkey and my train fare. And again the Lord heard my cry, for the donkey's owner left without asking for a tip. For a donkey driver to fail to ask for extra money is most unusual in China. Then when I went to the railway station, I found that I had exactly enough, not one Cent too much and not one cent too little, for a third-class ticket. Truly my Lord was caring for me! My fellow passengers drifted in, weary and footsore. Most of them had walked the whole way, some carrying heavy loads. In the quiet of the sunset they gathered with me about God’s Word, and as we read Psalm 121, they admitted that God had cared for me in a wonderful way on that journey. Then, though the time was short and they were very weary, they would not leave before they had secured an address where they could buy a Bible, that they too might come to know this One that had watched over me. Will you pray that through reading these Bibles they may find the Lord Jesus as their Saviour and Helper, too? A Bible Woman’s Happy Day* The Bible Woman knocked at Mrs. Browne’s house, eager to find her at home, for the Bible Woman was longing to win her to the Lord Jesus Christ. Soon the door opened, and there stood Mrs. Browne, who, although busy, graciously welcomed the Bible Woman. “I can see that you are ironing,” the visitor said. “Don’t let me interfere. I will visit with you while you go on ironing.” The Bible Woman was no sooner seated *Based on the experience of Ethel Lee, one of the Bible Women of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles.

than the kitchen door opened and in came nine-year-old Timmy, skates in his hand. “Hello, Sonny,” the Bible Woman said. “Have you ever seen a gospel nut?" “No, ma’am,” Timmy replied as with eager eyes he watched the Bible Woman take from her purse this strange and won derful nut.f The Bible Woman then began to pull out from within the glued halves of a walnut shell a row of colored ribbons, fastened end to end. Each of the ribbon sections and the Bible verses that went with it helped to tell the good news of the gos pel. There was first the black ribbon which

iour to some one.” And mother and son then and there confessed to each other the fact that they had taken the Lord Jesus as their own Saviour. “Now I’m going to give you the ‘gospel nut,’ the Bible Woman said as she turned toward Timmy. “Take it and use it to win some souls, Laddie, for the Lord Jesus.” Timmy took the nut, fastened on his skates, and was soon speeding away down the street. Not very many minutes had elapsed before the door opened, and in rushed Timmy breathlessly exclaiming, “I asked a little girl to let Jesus come into her heart, and she did.” “Did you tell her about the blood of the Lord Jesus which He shed on the cross for her, Timmy?” the Bible Woman asked. “Yes, I did,” Timmy replied, his face beaming with joy. “Oh, I am so glad you told her about Him, Timmy!” the Bible Woman answered. "And now you will want to know more of the stories about Him, both for your own sake and so that you can tell her more, too.” Then she explained to Timmy and his mother how they Would need to read God’s Word in order to know the Lord Jesus better and to learn what He wanted them to do next. As the Bible M?oman left this happy home, her heart was rejoicing in the Lord who had worked so wondrously in the hearts of a boy and his mother. —M. S. H. suggested sin, and reminded Timmy that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Then there was the red rib bon which represented the blood of the Lord Jesus which cleanses from all sin. The strip of white ribbon stood for a cleansed heart; green represented a grow ing Christian life, and blue spoke of the Christian’s daily life as being separated from anything sinful. And last there was the beautiful golden ribbon which reminded one of the heavenly city where the streets are of pure gold. Timmy seemed to like this ribbon best of all, and how wistfully he listened as the Bible Woman described the glories of heaven! "The gates are of pearl, the streets of pure gold, and round about the throne of God is a beautiful rainbow. Yes, heaven is a real place, Laddie. Wouldn’t you like to go there some day?” And Timmy earnestly nodded his head. “But even one little sin will keep you out,” the Bible Woman continued. “Only those whose sins have been washed away by the Lord Jesus can ever enter in. But if you are sorry about your sins and will ask the Lord Jesus to come into your heart and be your Saviour, He will do so and will wash away all your sins. Wouldn’t you like to do this?” And Timmy without answering bowed his head and prayed, “Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” God heard the prayer of Timmy and answered it according to the wonderful promises in His own Word. Now all the while that the Bible Woman was talking to Timmy, Mrs. Browne was going through the motions of ironing, but in reality she was listening with her whole heart to this wonderful message. So when the Bible Woman turned to her and said, "Mrs. Browne, will you ask the Lord Jesus to come into your heart just as Timmy did?” she gladly and joyously agreed, and she prayed the same prayer that Timmy had offered. “You have both taken the first step,” the Bible Woman continued. “The next step is to confess the Lord Jesus as your own Sav- fFor information concerning the "Gospel Nut," write to The Junior King's Business, 558 S.
