BLACKBOARD LESSON

Let's take him out of the coil and see whether he still has a drawing power. Yes, he still can lift heavy loads. As I look at Bill Drill and see how he keeps the power the coil has given him, even though he is not close to it, I am reminded of Peter, the great preacher on the Day of Pentecost. Christ had ascended to heaven, and Peter was faithfully preaching the gospel, causing men and women to be lifted from sin to salvation. This was the same Peter who had recently denied Christ. Bill Drill keeps magnetized because he has true steel in him. After the Day of Pentecost, Peter had the Holy Spirit in his life, and thus Peter’s life was powerful. Christ is looking for boys and girls today who will be like Peter after the coming of the Holy Spirit, remaining true to Him un der all circumstances.

batteries, a piece of adhesive tape, about sixty feet of Number 20 cotton-covered ar mature wire, and a cardboard tube three inches long by three-quarters of an inch in diameter. (Wind the wire around the cardboard tube, closely together, back and forth in layers from one end to the other, until all the wire is used. Connect the ends of the wire to the batteries. Metal placed on the inside of the coil will become mag netized. Wrap the coil with adhesive tape. Print the word “CHRIST” on the coil.) Lesson: This drill is so much like a per son that I have named it Bill Drill. We will make a magnet of Bill today. When Bill Drill is close to this magnet which re minds us of Christ, he can easily lift these two nails. (Put the drill on the inside of the coil and connect to the batteries.) Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up to gether into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour . 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 a And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you all* and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Lesson Text: Acts 3:1-10; 4:8-12. Golden Text: “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee” (Acts 3:6). Devotional Reading: Isa. 35:1-10. Outline and Exposition I. T he M iracle (A cts 3:1-10) I ACKING, as yet, any instruction con cerning the church, the disciples who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ regarded themselves as just another sect among the Jews; hence they continued in observing the rites and ceremonies oi Juda ism. Thus it was that "Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer.” There evidently were many beggars and disabled people about, and. among them was one bom lame. name. But there was something compelling in Peter’s words and manner, and the man yielded himself to the apostle’s assistance when taken by the hand and lifted up. "Immediately his feet and ankle bones re ceived strength,” and he leaped up, and stood, and walked. Here was a miracle within a miracle. The man not only stood, but he also walked —and walking is an art to be learned by tedious process. With the disciples, the man entered the temple, “and all the people saw him walk ing.” There was no deception about the miracle, and the people were awed. But there are many who can become filled with amazement at what Jesus does without ever coming close to Him themselves. There is a beautiful legend told concern ing this man—how that afterwards, he be came established in business which fre quently took him past this spot at which he had been healed. It is said that each time he passed he would stop, and leap,

passed by, the lame man asked for alms. He expected material help, and probably his countenance fell when he heard Peter say, "Silver and gold have I none.” He was doubtless perplexed, too, when he heard further: “Such as I have give I thee.” Peter at once commanded him, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, to rise up and walk. Ordinarily this man, being a Jew, would have turned away in anger from that
