Feeding: Bulls are gathered at weaning time (6-9 months of age) and brought to the ranch headquarters. A complete health vac - cination and parasite control program is followed. Bulls are tattooed in the right ear and freeze branded for individual identification. A hot brand is used for ranch brand. Bulls are sorted into feeding pens by sire group and size, and grown during the summer at the ranch feeding facility. The bulls are kept at the ranch feeding facility until sale time. A high forage diet consisting of free choice crabgrass hay is provided. A 15% protein ration is bunk fed throughout the feeding period and adjusted to keep bulls growing well, with a 3#/day gain target. Extreme care is taken to develop a bull that is in very athletic condition and results in many years with breeding longevity.
Breeding Soundness Exam: Within 45 days prior to the sale, Dr. Chad Hommertzheim, Heartland Veterinary Clinic, performs a BSE on all bulls. A semen sample is collected and evaluated to determine motility and morphology. Dr. Hommertzheim performs a physical exam and a scrotal measurement is taken.
