JACOB’S thoughts
This is the hardest part of putting the book together (Jacobs Thoughts). One of my close friends said “blank page” and he is not wrong, somedays. But those are the days one of the family members is probably mad at me. In all seriousness I want to talk about “Ralph’s” cows. When they first came to our farm, I was worried about what kind of cows they really were. Over the last 3 years, they have proven to be a great cow herd as a whole. There are 2 things that really stand out to me, udder quality and disposition. The last few years we have custom fed/calved a lot of cull cows. This experience was a real eye opener for me on how much genetics really matter. Now, it is the middle of January and we have started calving again, and I am truly glad our cows have good udders and good dispositions both registered and commercial cows. With that being said, going forward the mindset of proven genetics is very important; one year of poor breeding decisions can really set you back. I also want to talk about our backgrounding. This year will be our 5th year of purchasing heifer calves in the fall and running them as yearlings. This past fall, we purchased about 500 head. I really want to support people who have supported our family. I don’t want to advertise a “buy-back program,” but I want it to be known: if you purchase bulls from us and sell heifer calves in the fall, let me know. I want to support people back if I can. If you have any questions, give us a call and we can talk cattle. As far as the bulls go, this is our 3rd set and I think the best from top to bottom. They are thick, good footed, and powerful bulls from good momma cows.
THEY ARE THICK, GOOD FOOTED, AND POWERFUL BULLS FROM GOOD MOMMA COWS. “ “
