Issue No. 2 2026 Quarterly Magazine

Currently, our sisterhood spans five generations, from the Silent Generation (born 1928-45) to Gen Z (born 1997-2012), our current collegians. While fashion, technology and campus life have evolved over the decades, one thing has remained steady and true: our sisterhood. In this feature, we learn from two Beta Alpha- Illinois members representing different generations, to explore how their collegiate and Fraternity experiences differ and, perhaps, how they’re more alike than you might expect. Favorite music among sisters? Judy Brunkow Glasford, a 1954 initiate: The Kingston Trio and The Four Freshmen Sara Oh, a 2023 initiate: Everything from country to house to pop music — we have a pretty eclectic taste in music! An accessory you cannot live without: Judy: My iPhone for staying connected to loved ones. Sara: A simple gold chain bracelet, the perfect accent for any outfit and occasion. How has Alpha Phi impacted your life? Judy: Alpha Phi has been a big part of my life for most of my life, more than 70 years now. It has provided me with

lifelong friends from college and alumnae communities. Even though I have no family in town, I have a group of sisters who are always there for me. Sara: Alpha Phi has given me a sisterhood for life, better leadership skills and a way to make a lasting impact on my school and community. Within my chapter, I have built a support system away from home, found study buddies and women who will be bridesmaids at my future wedding. What advice would you give to new members now? Judith: Remember that Alpha Phi is for a lifetime. It’s so important to join an alumnae community. When I moved to Houston, I knew no one. I’m still friends with Alpha Phis I met back in 1958 when I joined an alumnae community. Sara: Go to everything and join a committee! Attending fun events is a great way to bond with sisters and scope out what leadership positions might interest you. Joining a committee is another fun way to get more familiar with the chapter and how events are planned and organized. It may seem overwhelming but know there is a place for everyone in Alpha Phi! 

Popular fashion trend on campus:

Sara: Matching workout or sweat sets, especially matching an Alpha Phi crewneck and sweatpants.

Judy: We didn’t wear pants on campus, only skirts with bobby sox, or ankle-length socks, and saddle shoes or penny loafers.
