"Forget the Camel: The Madcap World of Animal Festivals and What They Say About Being Human" In her debut book, Elizabeth MeLampy (Iota Tau-Harvard) invites readers to examine their views on how different (or similar) we humans are from our animal companions. "Forget the Camel: The Madcap World of Animal Festivals and What They Say About Being Human" delves into animal festivals around the globe and explores their connection to a fundamental question about humanity. About the author Elizabeth is a lawyer whose career has centered on protecting animals and the environment. She has worked with Harvard’s Animal Law & Policy Clinic on issues affecting farmed, wild and captive animals and was among the first Emerging Scholar Fellows with the Brooks Institute for Animal Rights Law and Policy. After completing clerkships with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and the Federal District Court in Arizona, she went on to litigate with a leading environmental nonprofit. Elizabeth believes animals are sentient beings who deserve dignity and care, and that how we treat them shapes our planet and humanity. “Death and Diamonds” In “Death and Diamonds,” Laura Soldinger Yotter (Beta Epsilon-Arizona) recounts her father’s experiences in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, sharing his story through a survivor’s lens. She details his liberation from the Mauthausen camp and his work under Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist and Nazi Party member who saved 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. About the author Laura earned a degree in business administration from the University of Arizona and spent more than 30 years working in municipal government, authoring reports, grants, policies and media scripts. As the daughter of Holocaust survivor Samuel Soldinger, Laura grew up hearing his stories and is deeply committed to preserving their accuracy and sharing them with the world. Samuel often told Laura she would one day write a book about his experiences, and she made it her mission to do just that — an ambition that became reality in late 2023 with the publication of “Death and Diamonds.”
