Stress Reduction Stress can take a serious toll on health and well-being, and we all experience it. Reducing stress can feel easier said than done but adding stress-reducing activities to your daily routine can boost your energy and improve your mental and physical health. There are many tools and strategies for managing stress, and what works may vary depending on your needs. Remember, you’re never alone — your Alpha Phi sisters are ready to lend an ear, a shoulder or a warm hug without judgement. Simple practices to try each day include thought-dumping in a journal, taking slow, deep breaths, saying neutral or positive affirmations, grounding yourself outside or calling a friend. Listening to your favorite music, dancing, cuddling pets and laughing can also lower stress levels. And it’s always okay to seek professional help. Know that small changes add up. Wellness is holistic, with each pillar acting like a puzzle piece to complete the bigger picture of health. Society has taught us women to put everyone else’s needs before our own, but we must remember we cannot pour from an empty cup. By refusing to be selfless — abandoning our entire selves — we can better support those around us. Taking care of yourself through sleep, hydration, movement and stress reduction benefits everyone. Focus on these pillars bit by bit this year and consult your doctor before making any drastic changes to establish a solid baseline for your wellness journey. Here’s to a healthier and happier you!
