A Heart of Giving Our members are passionate humanitarians, sisters who are laser-focused on advancing the lives of women around the world. Every chapter participates in our beloved Red Dress Gala, an annual affair featuring the hallmark elements of a fundraising celebration: dinner, auctions and entertainment. Beyond the fun, these events are incredibly impactful, raising money and awareness for the Alpha Phi Foundation’s mission to support women’s heart health. In addition to these signature events, most chapters enthusiastically engage in a second philanthropy event each year, one that directly benefits their members, college campuses and surrounding communities. Here is a look at how a couple of our collegiate chapters have showcased their heart for giving this past semester.

Twice a year, Beta Mu Chapter at the University of Alabama hosts a blood drive to support women’s heart health awareness. Their most recent drive took place on September 10, 2025. In the weeks leading up to the event, chapter members spread the word across campus and on social media, encouraging students and community members to participate. The turnout made a strong impact. Around 180 chapter members donated blood, along with members of the public who stopped by to show their support. Beta Mu is already looking forward to hosting their spring blood drive later this semester, recognizing that every donation plays a role in the Alpha Phi Foundation’s critical mission. “Our members love our philanthropy and are so supportive because our philanthropy touches the hearts of many women in our chapter,” Chapter President Tessa Mauro says.
Zeta Iota Chapter at the University of Virginia hosted its Red Dress Brunch this past September in conjunction with the chapter’s Parents’ Weekend. By pairing the two gatherings, families enjoyed a comprehensive experience of Alpha Phi and its values. “Seeing the support from our families and community makes us so proud to be part of Alpha Phi and continue raising awareness for a cause that truly unites our members,” Madi Wangensteen, director of programming and events for Zeta Iota Chapter, says. Members and their families attended, along with several local vendors who donated a portion of their sales to the Alpha Phi Foundation. Despite rainy weather, nothing could stop the chapter from hosting this fun and meaningful event. Attendees gathered under a large tent in front of the chapter facility and enjoyed a hearty breakfast spread that included baked goods, fruit, granola, sausage, potatoes and assorted beverages. Each table was beautifully decorated with heart-themed centerpieces, and heart-shaped balloons and rose garlands were thoughtfully placed throughout the tent. Music filled the air, and the event concluded with a presentation on heart health awareness and an awards ceremony. Zeta Iota Chapter raised more than $7,000 for the Alpha Phi Foundation. Reflecting on the event, Madi shares, “It was uplifting, community-oriented and empowering. Hosting this event is a meaningful reminder of the impact we can make when we unite around a shared cause.”
