I always looked forward to Spirit Week — it was a time of pure magic. Without social media, the return to the chapter house felt like a true reunion, filled with laughter, hugs and the kind of connection that only comes from shared purpose. That week was our creative heartbeat: we rehearsed skits and songs, crafted every detail for recruitment and even designed and stitched the costumes ourselves. It was hands-on, all-in and deeply bonding. Our president Becky Stribling Mayad's hair caught on fire in the middle of her heartfelt preference speech! She was standing too close to the candelabra, plus she had a ton of hairspray in her long, blonde, curly hair. About the time we saw (and smelled it!) her roommate yelled across the room, ‘Becky, your hair!’ She bent over, flipped her hair to the front and beat out the flames, then flipped her hair back in place and finished her speech, smiling the whole time. —Liane Jones Locke (Gamma Iota-Texas Tech)
