King's Business - 1967-08

CULTS continued in reverse. There is nothing purer than a child, so we are baptizing her to symbolize everything good and to dramatize her lust for life.” A 3-week-old girl had been sched uled to be baptized, but Zeena Gala- tea, whose name symbolizes a mythi cal woman without flaws, was sub stituted after the baby’s grandpar ents objected. The 15-minute ceremony began when the woman took off her clothes. In such ceremonies the altar is al ways a naked woman. As Lavey tapped his daughter on the head with a sword, five gowned priests gath ered in a semi-circle, then parted. The high priest toured the chamber, which contained a 19th century bar ber's chair and a bookcase filled with horror books, ringing a bell and chanting to Satan. Zeena Galatea sat contentedly chewing her gum and n estling against the naked leg of the woman on the mantel. About 40 persons, mostly reporters and photographers, attended the ceremony. Lavey obliged the photographers by performing the baptism three times. At one point the nude on the altar began laughing, presumably at what a bearded man had been whispering to her. “ Don’t mind her,” said another of Lavey’s priestesses. “ It’s just her satanic nature coming out.” Well, that’s the story. Is it all a farce, or is it just a replacement of Christian harassment in the “ New Rome” we call America? Roman soldiers of old mocked and spat upon a King they later crucified. Nearly 2,000 years later we are “ treated” to a baptism in the name of Satan. How sick is our society today ? The patient may live, but is anyone sure he wants to? EDITORIAL (continued) order to rehabilitate him or at least keep him alive. There are definite moral as well as spiritual implica tions in the use of tobacco and alco hol even as there are in the use of the drugs so widely used by the younger generation. God help us to be consistent in our own lives in order that we might lead aright, as well as legislate aright, for the wel fare of all concerned, especially those who are so weak that they cannot withstand temptations themselves and indulge their appetites to their own physical harm and spiritual de struction.

I sh all never cease to be thank ful for a godly mother who rec ognized her responsibility in the home. There were many occasions when my father was engaged in meetings that she would have en joyed being with him, but she stayed behind simply because she knew that we as little children needed her loving attention. Occa sionally, however, as we grew older and could watch out for ourselves, mother would go along with my father. I shall never forget one such time when my brother Marvin and I were left alone. We rather enjoyed this independence — except for one thing. How we detested doing the dishes! In fact, we so abhorred that job that we simply stacked all the dirty plates, glasses, and silver ware in the oven after each meal. At the end of the week, there was hardly any room left! On the evening before mother and dad were to return, we rolled up our sleeves and cleaned up the whole mess! Believe me, it took

hours! How ashamed we would have been if our parents had come back earlier than we expected! However, when we knew that they would not put in their appearance for several days, we dared to be sloppy in our duties; but, on the eve of their coming, we got busy and cleaned up. Is it not much the same way with the Lord’s return? It is the ex pectancy of His “ any moment” ap pearance that causes us to be diligent in our service for Him — lest we be reproved for our lack of faithfulness and industry at His coming. “ And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall ap pear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming” (I John 2:28). Are there any “ dirty dishes” in your life? THOT: Belief in Christ's immi nent return is the secret spring of holiness.
