fluid, and identifications of locations, which often underwent many name changes, and even g eograph ica l shifts. Nonetheless, this work repre sents probably as careful and full a record of the period as is possible to put together in the present state of knowledge. Part One deals with the chronolo gical order of events and factors, while Part Two takes up individual territorial units. Part Three deals with the Roman road system, econom ic matters, and natural resources. All Bible students and scholarly li braries will want this book. — 231 pages; cloth; Baker Book House, Grand Rapids; $5.95. Please Tell Me A Story by Velma B. Keifer This is a collection of sixty-one stories for reading and telling to children. Sub ject matter varies from insects, ani mals, books, missions and people to alligators, mice, and school. Mrs. Keifer is well qualified to select sto ries, as she broadcasts stories on a TV program regularly in Grand Rapids. She and her husband have been in children’s work for many years, and have co-authored a num ber of books. — 153 pages; cloth; Baker Book House, Grand Rapids; $2.95. Hymns for Youth No doubt a hymnal of this type was long overdue. Very few would publish a hymnal which may have a limited use, but which is needed to give youth a rich musical heritage and background. The story of pioneer missionaries who enter untouched tribes to intro duce the Gospel of Christ is always thrilling and edifying. Nowhere does one find more primitive life than among the Indians of the jungles of South America. It was among the Ayore Indians of Bolivia that Bill Pencille and his family settled down to conquer the language and to learn the ways of the Stone-Age people. The Lord allowed many trials and through many tribulations brought them slowly but surely into accept ance by the natives. Strugg les against superstition and Satanic op position were fierce. Disappointments were frequent. But, one by one, trophies of grace were captured. A good deal of cultural data and de scriptive material are included in the story, being shared by a number of missionaries in the writing of the book.—256 pages; cloth; Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids; $4.95. The Holy Land From the Persian This survey covers a period of 1100 years: 536 B.C. to A.D. 640. The author, Professor of Archaeolo gy at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, began the work in 1931 when he was on the staff of the De partment of Antiquities of the Gov ernment of Palestine under the Brit ish mandate. A Hebrew edition was published in 1949, a third edition of which appeared in 1962. Additional work was done and presented to the University of London in 1957 as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Theology. The present edition in English includes all findings to date, including the Dead Sea Scroll mate rials. The author recognizes the extreme difficulty of establishing exact data in ancient geography, especially re garding borders, which were often to the Arab Conquest A Historical Geography by Michael Avi-Yonah
