ranchers, their expertise wasn’t in market- ing, so they started seeking advice from people that understand marketing which began their path to planning a sale.
Stokka Ranch has been selling bulls pri- vate treaty for 17 years. Billy and Abigail Ogdahl began in 2018. Jesse Kalberer began purchasing cattle from the Stokka Ranch in 2019.
After hours of conversations and driv- ing through cattle over many years, the conversations started turning toward the possibility of having a sale. In 2025, the group decided to hold a joint bull sale after serious discussions. Being primarily

The Group’s Philosophy andFocus
The group’s goal is to raise maternal cattle that can have a great impact on their customers’ bottom lines. They have found that the genetics they use from Ohlde Cattle Co. provides the proven platform they need for their cow herds. The cows are moderate-framed, low-input cows with good udders and feet.
“Don’t get me wrong,” said Jesse Kalberer,“they’re not all perfect, but we’re trying. “These bulls aren’t raised to be ‘power’ bulls, but instead, they are bred and raised to build a profitable herd of cows.”

Sale Information
Stokka Ranch, Kalberer Ranch and Ogdahl Ranch
CONTACTS: Jesse Kalberer....................701-471-4388 Gerald Stokka....................701-371-5119 Murray Stokka....................701-789-0891 Billy Ogdahl........................701-799-0528 BULL DEVELOPMENT: Kalberer bulls were born on green grass, weaned in December and fed grass and cover crop bales, as well as some chopped hay in bale feeders. They were offered free choice salt, mineral and apple cider vinegar. In May they were turned out on grass with our herd bulls, with the same free choice mineral program. In December they were brought home and have been fed grass bales and chopped hay in bale feeders, along- side the herd bulls until mid-April. They were then hauled to Stokka Ranch and fed a total mixed ration of oat/ field pea hay along with sugar beet tailings for energy and modified distill- ers for protein. Stokka bulls were on pasture during the grazing season and fed grass/ alfalfa mix hay until March 13, 2025. Bulls were then fed a total mixed ration of oat/field pea hay with beet tailings and a small amount of modi- fied distillers. These bulls have never had grain or silage. Our goal is for them to express themselves without being pushed, to encourage longevity. BULL PROGRAM: We can keep the bulls until May 20th free of charge. Beyond that date, there will be a $3.50/day feeding charge. We strongly recommend you purchase insurance on your bulls remaining at the Stokka Ranch. We are not responsible for any injury or death that might occur after the sale but before the bulls are delivered. TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or check. Checks to be made out to the appropriate owner of each bull. PURCHASERS RISK: Each bull becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as the bull sale is closed.
TERMS & CONDITIONS: The sale will be conducted according to the RAAA standard terms and con- ditions. https://bit.ly/RAAASaleTerms LIABLITY: All persons visiting the ranch, viewing cattle, or attending the sale’s open house do so at their own risk and sellers assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises. Kalberer bulls have had all of their calf shots and boosters, and have been vaccinated with Bovishield Gold FP5 VL5 as yearlings and with Virashield at BSE exam. Stokka & Ogdahl bulls receive two doses of a 7-way clostridial vaccine (Ultra Choice 7). In the spring they receive Inforce 3 (IBR, PI3, BRSV) intra- nasal and a second dose in the fall of BoviShield Gold 5/One Shot. Our Story
Stokka Ranch
The Stokka Ranch is nestled in and along the Sheyenne River Valley in Sverdrup township of Griggs County, ND. We are committed to producing low-maintenance, efficient, high-quality beef cattle. Our Red Angus program began 17 years ago. Our objective was to find registered females of moderate size with foolproof pedigrees and EPD numbers consistent with functionality, low maintenance, fertility and soundness. With this group of cows, we mat- ed to Ohlde Cattle Co. black, red-gene-car- rier bulls, utilizing OCC Linebred and OCC Headliner pedigrees. Our goal with these matings was to improve depth of body, fleshing ability and increase Billy Ogdahl and his wife, Abigail, started Ogdahl Ranch in 2018. The couple, along with their young son, Anders, are breeding and raising cattle as a first-generation cat- tle ranch south of Cooperstown, ND, along the Sheyenne River Valley. Stewardship and sustainability go hand- in-hand, and they ask the question,“How do we do more with less, and how can we leave the land entrusted to our care, better.” They believe that livestock is the answer, and more specifically, efficient beef cattle!
muscle while achieving performance con- sistent with ranch resources. We believe we have succeeded and will continue striving to improve feet, udder and teat conforma- tion. Selection pressure for increased numbers as to weaning weight, yearling weight and milk will inevitably lead to a negative impact on profitability and a decline in overall ranch health. Too much performance demands introduc- ing extra inputs in the form of additional energy and protein into the ranch system. Without these extra inputs, the ranch eco- system, including the cattle, will suffer.

Ogdahl Ranch
It’s Ogdahl’s goal to produce cattle that will perform well
Concentrating on economic drivers such as, stocking rate density, pounds of calf weaned per exposed cow and shortening calving windows has allowed them to con- tinue to grow their registered herd of Red Angus cattle that will benefit their custom- ers’ bottom lines. The Ogdahl Ranch aims to sell cattle that will be effective grazers – cows with longev- ity, bulls with desired genomic and pheno- typic traits and steers that will perform well in a feedlot or grass-finished environment.
in any environ- ment, adding muscle to mod- erately framed, grass-efficient genetics, along with putting strict selection pressure on their herd to only produce the best. Billy & Abigail Ogdahl

Our Story
Kalberer Ranch
Jesse Kalberer, with the support and help from his wife, Susan, and their three children, operate their family farm/ranch located near Hazelton, ND. Currently, they run a small herd of regis- tered Red Angus cows and commercial cows, plus occasional stockers to fill sum- mer pastures. After the downturn in cattle prices in 2016, Jesse started looking for ways to lower costs and be more efficient. He started reading more about rotational grazing and spoke with ranchers that were practicing it. He also started to think of ways to graze longer through the year in order to make and feed less hay. Before long, they had installed miles of cross fencing and pipelines. Jesse also started planting cover crops, etc. to extend grazing further into the winter. He was seeing improvements in the pastures but couldn’t seem to graze his cows very far into winter without feeding them.
At the time, he had been chasing wean- ing weights and trying to raise the biggest calves. The result of doing that for five-plus years was that his cows were way too big to do what he was asking of them. Being rather fond of red cattle, Jesse started looking for a local source of moder- ate-framed Red Angus. After about a year, he found the Stokka Ranch. he went to visit, liked what I saw and came home with a couple bred heifers. The kids named them Itty and Bitty because they were so much smaller than the cows. After seeing them perform through the year without losing any condition, he went back to Stokka’s. This time, he came home with a couple trailer loads of bulls, heifers and bred cows. Over the past 7 years, the Kalberer family has completely transitioned to a herd of moderate-framed, low-input cattle using Stokka and Ohlde genetics. These cattle are now capable of what Jesse is asking of them.
Jesse & Susan Kalberer Family
They grazed 10.5 months two years ago and grazed 12 months last year. They hold their condition all year without any pam- pering. They raise deep-bodied, feminine heifer calves and bull calves full of muscle.
Finally, cows that WORK!
From the Ground Up It all starts with the land. That’s why we’ve committed to regenerative grazing practices – extending the grazing season, improving soil health and raising cattle that thrive without extra feed. Our bulls are built in this system, and they’re designed to carry it forward. This is more than a sale – it’s a different way to think about raising cattle.
