SEPTEMBER 2021
THANK YOU, JANET DAVIS CREW!
Similar to the dry-cleaning team, we also have a shirt laundry team. About half of the pieces we service are button-down shirts, which require careful attention. This team is responsible for these pieces. Whenever we give tours, this is
Janet Davis Cleaners has been a family-owned business for five generations, going way back to 1938. We have poured a lot of our family into this business, and that generational knowledge and expertise is invaluable to our success. But we would not be where we are today without the dedication and commitment of our employees. The cool part about being in business for more than 80 years is that generations of other families work with us, too. We have some second-generation employees, and we even have a member of our team who is a third-generation employee! This Labor Day, I want to recognize all of our workers across our seven departments. These are the people who ensure your linens and clothes are cleaned and protected. The first point of contact many of our customers have is with our customer service team. They are the people manning the front desks when you walk in, and their job is to answer all your questions and get you what you need. They have patience and excellent problem-solving skills. We rely on them to provide a great experience to every customer. Next up is our pick-up and delivery service team. These are the folks you see driving across town delivering and picking up materials for cleaning services. They organize every piece that comes into the business, and we rely on them to keep our team on schedule. And because they interact with clients and the community, they serve as the face of our company! (Learn more about what they do and how our pick-up/delivery services work on Page 2.) Then, we have our dry-cleaning team. With the exception of some specialty items, this group is responsible for cleaning most clothing pieces, including non-button-down shirts, pants, suits, and suit coats. Despite their team name, they manage every style of cleaning, including spot-and-wash cleaning. They are masters of many trades in the cleaning business, and their job requires keen attention to detail to protect each garment.
everyone’s favorite team to watch! They operate with precision and structure their work in conveyor-belt fashion. As a result, they can clean anywhere from 65–85 shirts every hour! How amazing is that? Next, we have our wedding gown department. As the name suggests, this is where our bridal dresses are serviced. This department consists of one fixed person, the expert on wedding dress cleaning and repair, and she relies on other members of our crew for assistance. A lot of collaboration goes on in this department to ensure everything runs smoothly, effectively, and safely. Then, we have our household team. They manage the care and cleanliness of any item that isn’t clothing, like tablecloths, sleeping bags, napkins, and bedding. (See Page 3 for details on how gross your bed can get!) They ensure every type of material is cleaned exactly how it needs to be and understand that your bed sheets need very different care than a tablecloth with a wine stain. Finally, we have our facilities and maintenance team. Without their work, we couldn’t keep the lights on! Our crews won’t come to a complete stop if a machine breaks down, but we do rely on the speed and quick thinking of this team to keep every machine running and our processes operating effectively. Without these core departments at Janet Davis Cleaners, we could not serve the community the way we do. I appreciate every person who has worked or works for our company. Thank you, Janet Davis family, for your commitment to this business, my family, and our community.

You can enjoy many benefits when you trust a dry-cleaning service for your cleaning needs, but we admit that adding another errand to your to-do list can be exhausting. We have a solution: our pick-up and delivery service. You receive the same great dry-cleaning services you come to expect from Janet Davis Cleaners — except we do the pick-up and drop-off for you. Curious? Here are four common questions we get about this service. Q: WHERE DO YOU PICK UP CLOTHES, AND DO I HAVE TO BE THERE? A: We come to you! And most of our clients are not home when we pick up or deliver their clothing items. Simply leave your clothes on a covered porch, and we will take these to our facility. Once these items are cleaned, we will drop them off in the same spot. If you don’t have a covered porch, we can determine the best location for your items. This may be inside your garage or around the side of your home. Q: DO I HAVE TO SORT? A: Again, we do that for you! Your ball gown can go in the same bag as last week’s gym clothes, and we will take care of sorting items into the appropriate departments. However, if you have clothes need to be washed, dried, and folded, these will need to go in your black bag. Everything else can go in the gray bag. We can help you determine what that means for your items when you arrange for pick-up. Q: DO I HAVE TO KEEP SIGNING UP? A: You can sign up for recurring services, which means we will pick up and deliver your items on a predetermined regular basis. We don’t require items each time nor are there set minimums on what we take. If you just have one garment for a wash or a whole basket of clothes, we’ll take it! Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? A: Here’s the best part: This service is free! All you pay for is what you get — dry-cleaning services. And, we can keep a credit card on file, so billing is done automatically after each service. It’s no hassle and free! Our goal at Janet Davis Cleaners is to create an efficient and easily accessible dry-cleaning service. With pick-up and delivery services, this is possible! If you know someone who could use our easy, fast, and free pick-up and delivery service, please refer them to us today. DRY CLEANING, MADE EASY Answering 4 Common Questions About Our Delivery Service
3 Storage Ideas That Will Save You From Tripping Goodbye, Shoe Chaos!
It's that time of year again: The kids are charging inside, kicking off their shoes wherever they please, and tearing into the house! If you've already tripped over a dozen pairs of sneakers, it’s time to create and enforce a better shoe storage solution. Here are three functional and attractive methods to try. 1. THE DIY PVC PIPE SHOE CUBBY This shoe storage project is all the rage on Pinterest! It turns out that when you cut a large PVC pipe into sections, paint them your preferred color(s), and glue them together with PVC glue, the honeycomb effect looks both fun and elegant. You can try this in your mudroom or in your kids’ rooms to make putting away their shoes feel like a game. Check out the video “PVC Pipe Shoe Rack” by Home Made Simple on YouTube for a step-by-step guide to building a floor rack or Instructables.com for tips on mounting your rack to the wall. 2. THE OVER-THE-DOOR SHOE BAG If you don’t have the floor space for a traditional shoe rack, consider investing in an over-the-door shoe bag. These fabric, clear plastic, or upscale mesh bags hook over the top of a door and are covered in pockets for shoes. Many can hold up to 36 pairs! Best of all, when they’re hanging on the back of your mudroom or closet door, your shoes will be both easy to access and tucked out of sight. You can find affordable racks on Amazon.com for less than $10 or fancier models at Walmart for under $20. 3. THE HANGING CLOSET ‘SHOE FILE’ Speaking of closets, the “shoe file” is the perfect storage solution for a coat closet or any other closet near your main door. Instead of hanging on the door, this pocket-filled organizer cascades from a hanger! Many of the pockets are conveniently located at eye level; you can load up your closet with as many files as you need, and each file can hold up to 18 pairs of shoes. ContainerStore.com sells elegant shoe files starting at $12.99.

COULD YOUR BED MAKE YOU SICK? Why You Need to Wash Your Bed Linens
As the kids head back to school this year, you may be dreading the return of back-to-school germs. Colds and flus make their rounds in every household during the fall, but you can fight this! One of the easiest ways is to regularly clean your bed linens.
Here is a very simple schedule to follow for cleaning bed linens.
• Your sheets and pillowcases should be washed at least once every week. This may seem excessive, but it’s the simplest way to target germs quickly and effectively. You can also make this chore easier by signing up for our pick-up and delivery services! Simply put your bedding out on the front step every week, and we will wash, dry, and fold it for you. There are two options for sheets, wash-dry-fold, just like you can do at home, and full service, which includes ironing and gives you the feel of sleeping in a high-end hotel right in your own bed. • Larger items, like your comforter or a pillow, can be washed every three months. While these items can collect mites, germs, and dirt, they don’t take on the brunt of it like our sheets do. This is why you can get away with a less strict schedule for pillows and blankets. Our professional large capacity machines do a great job on these. This back-to-school season, don’t forget to add a wash cycle for your bedding to your daily list. This will not only protect your bed linens from damage, but it can also prevent the fall flu from striking your home. Learn more about our household item cleaning services and inquire about our pick-up and delivery options online at JanetDavisCleaners.com.
We spend about 30% of our lives in bed. That’s a lot of time to spend somewhere that isn’t clean! As we sleep, our sheets and comforter can become a collection of dust mites, oil, skin cells, and sweat. Our bed linens hold onto this grime, and as a result, without regular cleaning, our beds can cause acne breakouts, worsening allergies, and even spread viruses. Furthermore, when we let dust and allergens seep into our beds without proper cleaning,
we threaten the integrity of these materials. You may notice your comforter isn’t as colorful as it used to be or that your pillowcase is thinning. While this can happen over time from use, the dirt and bacteria in your bedding damages the strength of your fabrics. The best way to combat this is to wash your bedding on a rotating schedule. This will rid your linens of health-threatening mites and germs and protect the longevity of your favorite bed materials.
