JOB DESCRIPTION
Management (30%) Work collaboratively with the Head of Engineering, Energy and Environment to plan and organise team activity to; Manage the team ensuring that they are adequately trained, develop their knowledge and skills where appropriate. To undertake regular review assessments of the team performance and carry out reviews as per the Annual Review Conversation (ARC) guidance. Ensure the effective operation of the Imperial College’s CHP systems and heat distribution networks and administer the CHP Operators contract. Ensure the operation and continuous improvement of monitoring and targeting systems to measure energy performance of the Imperial College buildings. Promote the work of the Energy Team across Imperial College and to external partners. Ensure that energy implications of construction projects are addressed. Ensure that all Estates Operations teams are supported with regards to energy management and initiatives including Project activities. Ensure that Imperial College remains compliant with energy legislation and compliance. Design and implement energy management systems compliant with ISO 50001. Contribute towards Imperial College Building Engineering Services Particular Requirements, Employer’s requirements and briefing documentation to ensure Imperial College Energy Management requirements are met. Ensure that energy improvement projects are carried out in line with relevant health and safety legislation and best practice. Proactively seek ways of improving the output of the Energy Team. Support the BMS Engineer to ensure that the Building Engineering Management Systems (BEMS) and associated infrastructure deliver the most efficient, cost effective and technically effective service. Provide ad-hoc energy and utilities data as and when required Finance (20%) Prepare the annual budget for gas, energy and water consumption (c.£70M). To prepare estimates for liabilities taxes such as UK ETS carbon taxes c.£4.5M. Monitor and report on utilities budget, updating and revising as necessary to account for changes in unit costs, non-commodity costs, new property and property
divestments. Report on utilities budget with regards to providing accruals and recharging to relevant parties. To advise on future trends in energy costs. Contribute to the annual budget for energy improvement projects, monitor and report on progress. Analyse and interpret data advise on initiatives to reduce Imperial College energy use and costs. Strategy (25%) Develop a strategy for Energy Management in compliance with all legislation and codes of practice. Devise and keep under review a trading strategy for the forward purchase of gas and electricity. Formulate plans for energy projects and initiatives to reduce Imperial College’s energy consumption, energy budget and environmental impact. To develop energy strategies for all Imperial College Campus’s, incorporating plans to decarbonise all buildings in line with the Sustainability Strategy. Develop energy conservation awareness programmes to educate the Imperial College building users in the energy use. Work with other departments within ICL to ensure data is captured and made available through integration with other data capture platforms. A key stakeholder in the development of the Imperial College’s Net Zero strategy. Other Duties (10%) Keep abreast of developments relating to energy management. Manage own time and workload to support the Energy Teams objectives Support and develop team members. Liaison between the Energy Team and other Imperial College Departments. Support students carrying out energy and environmental research/projects Contribute towards academic project in the fields of energy management. Promotion of “best practices” in all areas of energy Management.
