Venues with outside structures
For many couples, an outdoor ceremony is the dream. West Sussex makes this a reality with many of our venues offering beautiful outside garden structures that have been licenced to hold a legal ceremony. If your ceremony takes place using the licenced outside structure; the couple, the witnesses and the registrars must all be inside the structure for it to be a legal event. Legislation has been passed to permit outdoor weddings in the grounds of Approved Venues. Venues need to have the area they are proposing to use agreed with the registration service. If you are interested in having your ceremony outside, please check with your venue if they have any of these areas. Please also remember that with the great British Summer being what it is, there may be rain, wind or even very hot and sunny conditions with no shade. Although the happy couple may be under cover, it may be worth sparing a thought for your guests, arranging for umbrellas or some kind of canopy in case the weather is not as you’d planned, particularly where the venue does not have an indoor alternative. If the venue does offer an inside room in case of rain, you must make sure it is licensed to hold the same number of people, otherwise some of your invited guests may not be able to see the ceremony. The decision whether the ceremony can take place outside will ultimately be between you and the venue. Do rest assured that whatever the weather, you will have a day to remember.
