Florida Marriage Awards Founders' Welcome Message Welcome to the 5th Annual Florida Marriage Awards Soirée 2025!
We are humbled and overjoyed to celebrate this incredible milestone with every one of you. As Founders, we, The Turners, extend our deepest thanks for being part of this purpose-driven movement. Your presence here demonstrates a shared belief in the power of strong marriages and their impact on families, communities, and future generations.
Our Mission To uplift and affirm the sacred covenant of marriage, grounded in the scripture: “Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Mark 10:9
Our Vision
We believe marriage is a divine gift from God to couples—and the way we nurture and honor that marriage becomes our gift back to Him. We stand on the power of agreement and unity within the marital covenant: “…and the two will become one flesh. So, they are no longer two, but one flesh.” – Mark 10:8 The vision behind this year's theme, “ Celebrating the Journey ,” is to honor the Living Legacy of Florida’s married couples who continue to exemplify love, faith, resilience, and strong family values. Tonight, we celebrate you—those who are not only married, but thriving, building, and loving through every season. A Celebration of Black Love Honoring couples who are in love, committed, and courageously enjoying the journey—together. Mr. Jason and Dr. Rhonda Turner Founders, 4 Knowledge Is Power, Inc.

It is easy to stand and make vows to one another—but how many couples have truly walked the walk when the tests of life showed up? Ernest is a praying man of God who continues to lift his eyes to the hills from whence comes his help (Psalm 121). He has been obedient, following the instructions given to husbands in Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” Please don’t ever get it twisted—best believe Big E does not play about Angie T! Angela is the modern-day Proverbs 31 woman the Bible speaks of. You are a shero and an example to wives, both young and old. Your marriage has been—and will continue to be—a ministry. Angela, as you were honored with The Art of Strength Award by Jason and Rhonda Turner for your endurance in caring for Ernest during his time of sickness, today both you and Ernest will receive the King and Queen crowns with the ruby stone as a gift to symbolize your four decades of true love, dedication, and commitment to one another. As we all know, the wife is the “crown” of her husband. Like a crown on a king’s head, she signals to everyone that this is a man to be honored and respected. She blesses her family— Proverbs 31. She respects her husband—Ephesians 5:33—and encourages her children and others to do the same. The blessed oil is a symbol of God’s grace at work through the faith of the believer. Such faith must be Jesus-centered, as was the faith of the blind man in John 9—he had faith in Jesus, not in the mud and spittle used to heal him.
Thank you for being an example to the Holidays. We love and appreciate your guidance and support.

GEORGE ASHFORD & MONICA MAY Some connections are instant ordained, even. For George and Monica, their story began on a blind date on Thursday, November 7, 2013, introduced by a mutual friend. The moment she walked into the restaurant and saw George, she whispered, “Thank You Lord, there’s my husband!” And just three years later, on Christmas Eve, in the very same restaurant, George proposed. They were married in April 2016, sealing a bond that felt less like a beginning and more like a reunion. Considered by many as "Twin Flames," George and [Spouse’s Name] describe their first conversations as though they were picking up right where they left off — a familiar spirit, a destined love. Together, they nurture not only their relationship but also one another’s businesses, dreams, and growth. Their marriage is built on authenticity, deep respect, and unwavering support. In their free time, you’ll find them traveling and making memories across new places, always side by side.
Their advice to couples: ✨ Allow each other to be fully themselves. ✨ Communicate as openly and frequently as possible.
Their love is proof that when it’s right you just know.

THEOPHILUS AND DARLENE BAPTISTE MAY It is our great honor to recognize and celebrate a couple whose marriage reflects strength, faith, and unwavering commitment. They will be the first to tell you every day hasn’t been perfect. But through it all, their love has endured. Standing firm in their faith, they declare with conviction: “No weapon formed against us shall prosper.” Their journey together has included joyful mountaintops and heartbreaking valleys. They’ve shared laughter, faced sorrow, and leaned on one another through seasons of both abundance and challenge. And yet, they’ve not only survived — they’ve thrived. They humbly acknowledge that this lasting love would not have been possible without the foundation of their faith. Trusting in God and keeping Him at the center of their lives, they’ve built a legacy that spans generations raising 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. They’ve lived out their vows for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health — and they remain committed to honoring those promises for a lifetime. Their advice to other couples is simple, yet powerful: 1.Communication, mutual respect, support, understanding, and lots of laughter are key. 2.Put God first, then family, then career. Pray together, pray for each other, and always forgive — just as God has forgiven you.

KEVIN AND CINNAMON OATES Sometimes love finds you when you're simply walking in your purpose, and that’s precisely how the story began for Kevin and Cinnamon Oates. Their journey started at Lincoln Elementary School, where Kevin served as Assistant Principal and Cinnamon was a dedicated educator. During Administrator Appreciation Week, Cinnamon and her students prepared a heartfelt gift basket and thank-you note to honor Mr. Oates for his leadership and support. Touched by the gesture, Kevin waited until after school hours to invite her to dinner — and from that moment, a beautiful love story began to unfold. Since then, God’s grace has continued to guide their journey. Together, they’ve been blessed with two beautiful children and a life filled with love, joy, and purpose. As a couple, they remain committed to walking in alignment with God’s prophetic blueprint for their lives leading with love and serving with faith.

VITO & DR. CHERYL MCKEEVER Their love story began in the summer of 1980 on the ramp of Yon Hall at the University of Florida — and from the moment Cheryl met Vito, the spark was undeniable. What started as a simple outing for ice cream and doughnuts turned into moonlit conversations, lasting friendship, and a love that would stand the test of time. Vito, full of Southern charm, courted Cheryl with grace, intention, and that unforgettable Gator smile. Five years later, in February 1986, they said “I do.” Together, they’ve raised two remarkable children, Juan II and Lauren, and built a legacy of leadership and service across West Palm Beach and the Palm Beach County School District. Now retired, they’ve traded in schedules for passport stamps, traveling the world together and making new memories at every stop.
Nearly 40 years later, their love still shines. Their rhythm, laughter, and connection remain strong — a beautiful reminder that real love never fades.
Their advice to couples: 1.True partnership is built on friendship and laughter. 2.Keep courting each other and never stop saying, “Nobody loves you like I do.”
08-06-1994 CHANDLER AND KIM WHITE The marriage journey of Chandler and Kim White has been one of joy, grit, and growth. Their love story began as college sweethearts at Florida A&M University, and now, after 30 years of Christian marriage, their bond is stronger than ever — a testament to love, faith, and unwavering commitment. Over the years, they’ve experienced beautiful seasons filled with joy, laughter, and shared dreams, but also walked through some of life’s most difficult valleys, including infertility and illness. There were times when the pain felt overwhelming and the burdens heavy, when their faith in God was deeply tested. But through it all, they held on to God and each other. “God has truly been our Lily in the valley,” Kim says. “His presence carried us when we couldn’t carry ourselves.” One scripture that became their lifeline is Isaiah 43:2: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”
They’ve learned that marriage isn’t just about the good times, it’s about showing up daily, praying through the storms, forgiving often, and choosing love again and again.
Their message to other couples: Keep pushing through the hard parts. Pray together, forgive quickly, laugh often, and trust God.

TARAY AND LATOYA WHITE The story of TaRay and LaToya White is one of love, blending, and unwavering commitment. When they began their journey together, TaRay was a divorcee with two sons, and LaToya, never married, had a daughter of her own. Together, they made a powerful decision to create a unified family so whole, so full of love and intention, that no one would even recognize it was blended. They accomplished this by being fully present, investing deeply in each other, their children, and their shared vision of family. They prioritized quality time, prayer, and most importantly, God as the center of their relationship. Their marriage has been tested, it has bent but never broken, swelled but never burst. It stands today as a testament to what happens when love meets consistency, and when commitment is sealed with faith. Built on prayer, anchored in love, and strengthened by shared purpose, their story reminds us all that blended doesn’t mean broken — it means beautifully rebuilt.

Evangeline is a devoted mother, a woman of deep faith, and the keeper of a love story that has touched everyone who knows her. She and her beloved husband were childhood sweethearts and best friends who built a life full of faith, laughter, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion. For ten long months, Evangeline stood faithfully by her husband’s side as he faced a series of medical battles. Through code blues, hospital walls, and quiet rehab rooms, she never wavered. Even after long days of teaching, she drove for miles to be with him, because love made every mile disappear. They turned sterile spaces into sacred ground, celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, and even Buccaneers game days with IVs and whispered prayers. Together, they lived their vows. They laughed, cried, and loved with a depth many only dream of. Now, though her husband rests in eternal peace, Evangeline carries his memory with strength, grace, and gratitude. She continues to live out the love they shared — not as a fairytale, but as a daily testament to faith, resilience, and God’s sustaining power. As she so powerfully says, “Grief walks with me, but so does gratitude… I know my husband is whole, resting in the arms of our Savior.”

Met in 2006 at a local sports bar that Bill currently owned. We instantly connected. As time has passed, we both have had kids; Bill’s two were both in elementary & my son was in middle school. I’m very grateful that the kids got along with each other. Fast forward two years, and we became very serious. He proposed to me in church, which was unexpected. I can remember he went to the altar to do a poem & I asked if I could assist & as I walked up he dropped to one knee & asked me to be his wife. We have accomplished so much over the years together. We have an excellent, successful catering service called Ceasar Catering & More LLC & still pushing strong during the pandemic & all. We look forward to many more years to come!
