We are certainly enjoying robust and uncharted prices for beef. Consumer demand continues to grow and flourish. It’s a good time to reflect and analyze the current state of the American beef industry and how we strategize for the future. In other words, what really matters — let’s focus on some of the important stuff. Fertility Matters — it is the driver of profit and sustainability in our beef industry. It is more important than any other trait. As obvious as that seems, it is easy to wander away from that basic premise. The national herd is at a 75-year low, and the U.S. has lost 17% of cattle ranches (150,000+) since 2017. While there are certainly many variables involved in this current state we find ourselves in, fertility must lead the charge to change direction. In this sale offering, 98% are above average for Fertility, and 87% of the offering is in the top 25% for Fertility. First things first. Cows Matter — while everyone has preferences for the size and shape of cows, we believe the cow should be the engine of efficiency. Forage-based, with as little supplementation as possible to meet her requirements. Truly moderate-sized, with lots of dimension and density so they can run on autopilot. Cows that don’t require any extras to stay in the herd. Essential traits like feet and udder quality are not negotiable. A cow’s job is to harvest resources on the ranch and turn it into pounds of beef in a package size that optimizes profit. It’s not pounds per cow, but pounds per acre. In this offering, 97% are above average for $Ranch (CowMaker index). There are EPDs and indexes for just about everything, but my favorite number is the difference between inputs and gross income — which is PROFIT. The bottom line... the cow makes the difference. TASTE MATTERS — why does the consumer keep choosing beef when other meat proteins are less expensive? In the last 10 years, beef demand has increased by 9%. WHY? Beef tastes better. Think about the best steak you’ve eaten... you may remember a lot about it, but I’m pretty sure you don’t remember how much it cost. Without desirable and succulent taste, demand will go down. Great flavor and exquisite taste come from intramuscular fat — something chicken and pork don’t have. The consumer is the end user of our product. They want nutritious, tasty, consistent, and moderate-sized portions. Let’s listen to them. The average IMF EPD for the entire sale offering is in the top 17%. All the bulls will be PAP tested to identify those suited for higher elevations. Nearly ½ of the sale offering is in the best 25% for PAP EPD. Individual scores will be available before the sale. All 5L bulls come with a guarantee for breeding and structural soundness for one 90 day breeding season. For additional peace of mind, customers can opt for the 5L Ranch Warranty, which offers protection against injury or death of the bull. This is an added service provided by 5L Ranch, not insurance through an outside broker.
Key Details of the 5L Ranch Warranty: Coverage period: 5 months from the purchase date. Cost: 5% of the purchase price, paid at the time of settlement. Full details and limitations are available at checkout.
Coverage Terms: If your bull is permanently injured or dies during the coverage period, you will receive credit toward the purchase of a replacement bull. The credit amount will be equal to the original purchase price minus any salvage value. Example: If you purchase a bull for $5,000 at the April 11, 2025, sale and buy the warranty for $250, and the bull is injured on January 1, you would sell the bull and receive a credit for $5,000 minus the salvage amount. If the bull dies, you would receive a $5,000 credit toward your next bull purchase.

Over 750 miles from Sheridan, MT – Delivery will be at cost to preferred delivery points. The chart in this catalog lists designated Pre- ferred Delivery Points. All bulls hauled home by new owners from Thursday- Saturday will recieve $100 credit per bull. If you wish to load during the sale, you must complete payment and present the extra copy of your invoice, which will be provided at checkout. Loading will only occur once this docu- ment is shown. Receiving Commercial Heifers All commercial females are sold FOB from the ranch listed in the catalog. Buyers are responsible for coordinating directly with the seller to arrange pickup of the heifers. It includes post-weaning characteristics (feedlot performance and carcass value, with material characteristics. Presented in a user-friendly 5-star sys- tem, the more stars the greater the profitability expected to be generated by a bull’s progeny across the various segments of the beef supply chain. Calving Ease – whether you’re looking for a bull to use on heifers or cows the Calv- ingEase stars can help you quickly identify either. 5-star calving ease bulls are those that provide us with the greatest degree of confidence when being used on virgin heif- ers.
