Expanding Mental Health Care INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF BRONX MENTAL HEALTH
In a landmark collaboration to address the critical need for mental health services in the South Bronx, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln is proud to announce its partnership in a new ACGME-accredited Community Psychiatry Residency Program. This innovative initiative, set to launch in July 2026, is sponsored by Urban Health Plan (UHP), a leading network of community health centers, and includes our sister institution, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. This program is a direct response to the severe shortage of mental health providers in
our city. By serving as a primary training site for inpatient clinical rotations, Lincoln Hospital will leverage its expertise and its 60-bed psychiatric unit to shape the next generation of psychiatrists. Residents will gain invaluable hands-on experience within our acute care setting before rotating through UHP’s outpatient centers, creating a comprehensive and community- focused training experience. As stated by our CEO, Cristina Contreras, this program represents more than just an investment in future physicians; it is a direct investment in the health and well-being of our community. By creating a
sustainable pipeline of culturally responsive clinicians trained within the very community they will serve, we aim to significantly improve disparities in access to psychiatric care. This powerful partnership between a federally qualified health center and public hospitals like Lincoln and Elmhurst demonstrates a shared commitment to health equity. We are dedicated to training compassionate providers who are deeply connected to the realities of our community, ensuring our patients receive the dignified and comprehensive mental health care they deserve.
