“Platform integrations … based on open standards such as PDF create powerful workflows for project teams and are a big step forward in creating seamless exchanges between design and construction solu- tions,” said Bluebeam Chief Technical Officer Don Jacob. Vectorworks, Inc. also released a reality capture feature, Photos to 3D Model, as well as its virtual reality feature, web view VR. The two technologies, along with the Bluebeam integration, are available with the latest update to Vectorworks Cloud Services in addition to the third Service Pack (SP3) for the Vectorworks 2018 product line. The Photos to 3D Model feature allows designers to create 3D models without having to measure or recreate existing 3D geometry or pay for expensive laser scanners to recreate existing conditions before modeling. Simply snap some photos on a mobile device and use the Vectorworks Nomad app to send that data directly to Vectorworks Cloud Services to process the 3D model. The latest update to web view Virtual Reality (VR) provides the ability to toggle shadows off and on and to control shadow direction in the web view. The ability to interactively section or isolate parts of the model allows designers more flexibility and precision to communicate their designs. Plus, for those with access to higher-end VR gear, the web view feature now also offers support for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Google Daydream, upping the ability to use web views on five types of headgear. Vectorworks integrates with Bluebeam Studio Vectorworks, Inc. and Bluebeam, Inc. announced a new integration between Vectorworks Cloud Services and Bluebeam Studio that allows project team members to host real-time, online markups and review sessions for digital construction drawings and 3D models. Vectorworks users can publish drawing sets as data-rich 2D PDFs or models as 3D PDFs to Vectorworks Cloud Services, where they can launch a Bluebeam Studio Session and then invite participants to com- pare, mark up, and collaborate in real time using the tools in Bluebeam Revu. Marked-up PDFs can then be saved back to Vectorworks Cloud Services for storage and file management. “In a traditional drawing review process, PDF files are typically ex- changed by email, then printed and manually marked up,” said Daniel Monaghan, vice president of marketing at Vectorworks. “By moving to a cloud-based review workflow, collaboration among project team members becomes easier and helps avoid mistakes, and ultimately al- lows projects to run more smoothly by reducing review time and costs. By making it easy to share and review files digitally, we’re helping to connect design and construction workflows in ways no other BIM program can offer.” Vectorworks has optimized its PDF publishing to better support Bluebeam’s workflow. For example, Vectorworks can batch publish PDF drawing sets, map layers, or classes to PDF layers and maintain Vectorworks hyperlinks in exported PDFs. Most recently, Vectorworks Architect’s space object was updated so room data defined in Vector- works can be mapped to native spaces in Bluebeam Revu, saving time in the review and estimating process. The Trans Sumatera Toll Road is a 2,770-kilometer tollway being devel- oped by state-owned EPC contractor PT. Hutama Karya (HK) for the Indonesian Government. Extending fromAceh to Lampung, this ambi- tious US $21.4 billion project will accelerate economic development in Sumatera (known as Sumatra in English), the sixth largest island in the world. One of 13,466 tropical islands in the Indonesian archipelago, Sumatera is heavily forested with mountainous terrain and smoldering volcanos. The mostly rural population of roughly 50.4 million people stretches across seven provinces and one autonomous province. The govern- ment of Indonesia undertook the Trans Sumatera Toll Road project as part of a large-scale road construction program to spur development on the island. The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry appointed owner-operator HK to develop the tollway and launch operations in sections, including 17 main lines and seven connecting lines. The tollway consists of four main corridors, plus three priority cor- ridors that are part of the Sumatera road network. The four main corridors include sections connecting Lampung and Palembang (358
