A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

This Monday we launched the SAFE day presentation to our students following high levels of substance misuse in our borough. It was great to hear so many interesting and thought provoking discussions as I walked around the year group on Monday morning. Please do continue the conversation with your child at home. This Wednesday Year 11 had an Assembly with Mr Bannister on International Women’s Day. He highlighted the problems that women face in society and how we can all champion the successes of the women around us. We did further work exploring this in tutor time today when we asked each student to complete a pledge card and write a personal thought about how they will inspire inclusion in their everyday lives Well done to the top 5 students on the epraise leaderboard from last week, Maisy S, Jay S, Lily D, Izzy T. Amelia M. A further well done to the top 3 forms from last week; 1st 11SAS 1st, 2nd 11ESU, 3rd 11PGC. Congratulations to the Design and Technology students who have worked tirelessly to complete their NEA design projects this week. It was amazing to see the work they had produced in the Exhibition school on Wednesday. Many thanks to all the staff who have supported them throughout KS4. A final reminder that there is The Woking & Sam Beare Hospice 2024 Prom Wear Event this Saturday. With a wide range of prom dresses, suits, shoes and accessories, this is the chance to glam up for your prom without all the cost – and knowing that every purchase will support the Hospice. Come and browse and try our outfits to make sure you can dress to impress. You don’t need to book an appointment, there are plenty of changing areas and staff to help you find the perfect outfit. The Prom Dress event will take place at The Fiery Bird in Woking, an exciting new community venue on Saturday 9 March from 10am to 4pm. To find out more information please click here. Next week Year 11 will be taking their core mock exams that they have been preparing hard for this term. We wish them well and hope they do themselves justice in these exams. Students should look at each day’s seating plan before coming to school. This can be found on the Year 11 GCSE Examinations 2023-24 Google classroom.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls is about Emma and Dexter who meet one night on the 15th of July 1988 but go their separate ways the next day. However, the novel follows both of them and their story together every 15th of July for the next 20 years. The Netflix adaptation of the book has recently been released and if you have enjoyed the show, I would really recommend the book because the book version gives you a unique insight into the story.
