A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

It has been a busy time for Year 9. Last week we took 18 Year 9 students to a career’s festival at Guildhall. This was a brilliant experience which allowed students to consider different career paths that they might want to pursue in the future. The trip was a great success and the students were great at having a go at a range of activities from smoothie making and planting to carpentry and stone masonry. It was a really great day and many members of staff commented at Guildhall at how well behaved and mature our students were. Well done to them. This week on Monday form tutors conducted a session for SAFE day, looking at substance abuse to allow students to make safe choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol. This was a real success and the majority of students participated in a respectful and mature way. This week we also have the elections to the Youth Council for Kingston and Richmond and UK Youth Parliament. The voting went live on Friday 1 March and so students in tutor times will be deciding on which candidate they want to vote for within their forms. This will need to be completed by today. This week 9EJO received the most epraise points. They are followed by 9FBH in second place. Well done! Today is International Women’s Day, so students in form time are going to be learning about the history of this day and writing pledges about how they are going to commit to inspiring inclusion and equality in our school as well as the wider society. Congratulations to Charlotte in 9SPI for winning the Veronica Tweedle Award! Charlotte was one of 94 students nominated from 7000 that took ballet examinations in 2023. This is a huge achievement, well done!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls is about Emma and Dexter who meet one night on the 15th of July 1988 but go their separate ways the next day. However, the novel follows both of them and their story together every 15th of July for the next 20 years. The Netflix adaptation of the book has recently been released and if you have enjoyed the show, I would really recommend the book because the book version gives you a unique insight into the story.
