A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This Monday we launched the SAFE day presentation to our students following high levels of substance misuse in our borough. It was great to hear so many interesting and thought provoking discussions as I walked around the year group on Monday morning. Please continue the conversation with your child at home. On Monday our group of sports leaders - Sophia S, Charlotte W, Abi B, Neuza EM, Zara J and Clodagh M attended a Golf Event in Strawberry Hill for primary schools. All the students did a great job of encouraging the younger students and represented Waldegave wonderfully. This Tuesday we had an Assembly with Mr Bannister on International Women’s Day, he highlighted the problems that women face in society and how we should champion the successes of the women around us. We did further work exploring this in tutor time today when we asked each student to complete a pledge card and asked them to write something personal in there about how they will inspire inclusion in their everyday lives. On Wednesday Emilia L and Uma B represented Waldegrave at the ‘Jack Petchey Speak Out’ regional final at Grey Court school, it was a really uplifting and inspiring evening. They secured first and second place which was a huge achievement, as there were nearly 900 students participating across the Richmond heats. Well done! Wednesday was also a chance for a small group of physics students to attend the STEM Careers Fair at Hampton School, where they joined students from other schools to meet and discuss STEM careers with 5 professionals from a wide range of STEM fields and backgrounds. Apologies, I believe that last week I gave you the wrong date for parents evening. The Year 10 PCM is on Wednesday 1 May.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls

“ One Day ” by David Nicholls is about Emma and Dexter who meet one night on the 15th of July 1988 but go their separate ways the next day. However, the novel follows both of them and their story together every 15th of July for the next 20 years. The Netflix adaptation of the book has recently been released and if you have enjoyed the show, I would really recommend the book because the book version gives you a unique insight into the story.
