O ne of NI’s longest established construction companies, Charles Lavery & Sons Ltd has had continuous representation on CEF committees since the early 1970s, recognising the benefits of maintaining an active involvement in an organisation which does such a superb job serving our industry. Those high standards of service were set by the excellent leadership of Gordon Burnison, Tony Doran and John Armstrong in recent decades and we wish John well on his retirement. Equally, we are sure Mark Spence will continue to maintain those standards in his new role and we wish him well. Charles Lavery & Sons Ltd is a third- generation family business providing private housing developments for generations of customers in the Lurgan and Craigavon areas. Charles Lavery began his career in 1912 and soon
gained a reputation as a skilled contractor with many of his early houses still standing today. The business specialised in private housing developments from the 1960s onwards although, occasionally, commercial projects were undertaken such as the construction of Lurgan Railway Station. The concentration on

private developments continues to this day with a number of successful developments completed in recent years and ongoing projects such as the construction of 24 social houses for South Ulster Housing Association in Lurgan due to commence shortly. Ambrose Lavery was a great believer in CEF membership and an active
