MIVAN DEVELOPING THENEXT GENERATION WITHNINE JOINERY APPRENTICES

BRAIDWATERGROUPREVEALSPLANS FOR£450ML’DERRYDEVELOPMENT

T he Braidwater Group has announced plans for a £450m investment in a mixed-use development on a 100 hectare (c.250 acres) site in L’derry, which is to be known as The Cashel. The site is expected to deliver over 3,000 new social, affordable, and private homes, and create a new urban village. Phase 1 will see an initial investment of over £100m to deliver a mix of 800 social, private and affordable houses, with major infrastructure also to be put in place for the wider site. At any one time approximately 250 construction jobs and G raham has trained over 80 Aiders (MHFA) across the business in a move that will guide and support staff and subcontractors through one of the most challenging economic periods in our modern history. The campaign will be supported by Graham’s new online Wellbeing Hub, which acts as a point of reference for any employee who needs support and additional staff members to take up the role as Mental Health First guidance along with regular ‘toolbox talks’ that address mental health and wellbeing topics. Speaking about the initiative, Michael Smyth, HR Director, Graham, said, “Construction has always been considered a macho industry where employees haven’t previously felt comfortable speaking up if

Megan Dunlop, new apprentice joiner at Mivan

M ivan, specialist joinery and interior fit-out company, based in Antrim, has taken on nine new apprentices as part of The Navigate Programme, boosting the number of joinery apprentices in the company to 23. The Navigate Programme is Mivan’s student engagement and recruitment brand. Running in conjunction with the local College Network, the programme currently offers Specialist Joinery and Furniture Production / Bench Joinery apprenticeships which lead to a Level 3 NVQ Diploma. Karen Anderson, Head of HR, Mivan said, “This programme allows us to train our people in the skills that we need to help the business to continue to grow and it also comes with additional support for students and graduates.” New apprentice joiner Megan Dunlop said, “I am really looking forward to starting my career in joinery with Mivan. I visited the company open day back in March and immediately knew this was the company and career path for me.” www.mivancom
