Dear Cumberland View Community,

As the weather warms up and flowers begin to bloom, excitement is building for the AFL football finals! Whether you're cheering for your lifelong

team or just enjoying the thrill of the game, it's a great time to gather with fellow residents and staff to watch the matches together. We'll be screening key games in the lounge, so come along, wear your team colours, and enjoy some friendly banter. Go your team! Our new spring menu has officially launched, bringing lighter, seasonal dishes to your plate. We’ve included fresh produce and vibrant flavours to celebrate the change in season. We’d love to hear your thoughts—please share your feedback with staff or through the suggestion box in the dining area. Your input helps us make sure meals are both nutritious and enjoyable for everyone. With more social activities and visitors during spring, it’s important to continue practicing good hand hygiene. Hand sanitiser stations are available throughout the facility—please use them regularly. Also, don’t forget to stay up to date with your vaccinations. If you're unsure about your vaccination status or need assistance booking an appointment, speak with our nursing team. Let’s keep our community safe and thriving! Joe Ciccarone Facility Manager

Community Happenings Winter

This winter at Cumberland View was filled with laughter, music, creativity, and plenty of special moments shared with friends, family, and our extended community. From royal celebrations to cultural days, furry friends to fabulous performances, the season has been a joyful one. Here are just some of the highlights. Music That Moves Us Music has been at the heart of life this winter. Residents swayed, clapped, and sang along with a wide variety of performers including John Bevilacqua, Alex Matthews, Jack the Music Man, Steph Renouf, Tommy Dee, Coxy the Cowboy, and Freddy Gulino. Our wandering minstrel Baruch brightened many afternoons with concerts and one-on-one visits, while Aaron’s piano recital and a beautiful performance by Caulfield Grammar students brought pure delight. Regular happy hours kept spirits high, with favourites often turning into sing-alongs that echoed through the home.

Community Happenings Winter

Celebrations and Cultural Delights There was no shortage of festivities to brighten up the winter months: King Charles’s Birthday was marked with a right royal celebration. Christmas in July had everyone donning festive spirit with decorations, music, and cheer. International cuisine was enjoyed across the season — including a taste of Germany, a French inspired feast, and an Indian Independence Day celebration. Residents also shared in the fun of International Tattoo Day, with plenty of laughter and creativity on display. Birthdays were celebrated each month with delicious cakes, music, and gatherings that brought everyone together.

Creative Spirits Crafting, cooking, and creativity thrived this winter. The craft room buzzed with activity, from painting roses and making NAIDOC Week projects, to everyday arts and crafts. Baking sessions included meringues with berries, red velvet cupcakes, carrot cake, and plenty of sweet treats shared with friends. Residents also enjoyed writing, puzzles, book club, and friendly games of bingo and carpet bowls, proving there’s always something to do at Cumberland View. 5

Community Happenings Winter

Furry Friends and Family Time Visits from Gelu and Milo, our Miracle Paws therapy dogs, were definite highlights, bringing smiles and plenty of pats to everyone they met. Our much-loved annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic was another furry and fun day out. Family and friends joined in regularly at our high teas and happy hours, it was wonderful to see so many connections celebrated and cherished.

Special Performances Lorenzo’s incredible performance was a standout, with both live and video recordings shared so that everyone could enjoy his talent. Drumming sessions with Jose brought energy and rhythm, while performances from Laurel McKenna and Kathy Lang added variety to an already star-studded season. Everyday Joy Beyond the big events, it’s the small, everyday moments that matter most. Coffee bus trips, movement to music sessions with Eliza, community games, and simple chats over morning tea made this winter full of warmth. The sense of belonging and fun continues to shine at Cumberland View. 6

Janine

Hello to All, our Cumberland View Residents, Families and friends, As winter draws to a close and we welcome the warmer days of spring, I’d love to share a look back at the wonderful activities and events that kept us all busy and smiling throughout June, July, and August.

Winter Highlights In June, we celebrated Italian Cultural Day with John Bevilacqua, enjoyed performances by Laurel McKenna, Margaret Dennis, and a heartfelt Vera Lynn tribute from The Golden Girls. Tom Diaco wowed us with his powerful voice, Alex Matthews kept Happy Hour buzzing, and a scenic drive to Frankston and Oliver Hill was a delight. We also welcomed students from St Justin’s Primary for games, stayed active with Eliza from Music to Movement, and capped the month with a special Birthday Afternoon Tea. July was packed with highlights — from Wimbledon Tennis and Pet Therapy with Milo and Gelu to performances by Freddy Gulino, Laurel McKenna, Tom Diaco, and young pianist Jacobs. Christmas in July was a festive standout with Coxy’s entertainment, a delicious lunch, and plenty of singing. We also enjoyed a French luncheon for Bastille Day, Tattoo Day fun, a Teddy Bears Picnic, Chair Tai Chi with Chris, and an elegant High Tea. In August, we marked International Beer Day with global tastings and music from Kathy Lang. Other highlights included a recital by young Aarons, more cuddles from Milo, Happy Hour with Alex Matthews, and exercise with Eliza. Our cultural meal celebrated India’s National Day with staff in traditional dress. The St Justin’s students returned for Bingo, Lorenzo charmed us in concert, and the Lifestyle team spread laughter as “angels” for Be an Angel Day, before Freddy Gulino closed the month on guitar and vocals.

ACED Day 2025 On Aged Care Employee Day 2025, the red carpet was rolled out to honour the everyday heroes who make aged care so special. From carers to chefs, cleaners, lifestyle teams, administration and maintenance, every staff member was celebrated for their dedication, compassion and resilience. ACED Day 2025

Staff lit up the red carpet with their best moves, sharing plenty of cheers, laughter and flowers along the way. Their kindness and commitment touch the lives of older Australians and their families each day, and this moment was a heartfelt way to say thank you – not just today, but every day.

Meet the Team Harneet Harneet has been working at Cumberland View Aged Care for over 2 years as a nursing unit manager in our Carter terrace. She shares that she feels privileged to work in such a loving environment where she is challenged daily to discover new and innovative ways to enhance the quality of life for the residents she cares for. When talking to Harneet, she is passionate about working with her team and contributing to creating a community which is harmonious and positive. Why does she enjoy her work? “It just fills my heart.” When Harneet is not hard at work in Carter, she spends precious time with her family. Raising two boys has been a blessing and supporting their sporting passions and attending their basketball and soccer games is special. They loved a holiday to Surfers Paradise because it has something for everyone especially the boys. As a family we love to take long walks around our suburb admiring

beautiful gardens and getting ideas for our own garden. Harneet loves relaxing in front of the TV watching comedies and crime stories. Harneet dreams of travelling to Switzerland. Many of the Bollywood movies that Harneet has enjoyed were filmed in Switzerland and the landscape captured her imagination. The Bollywood film director Yash Chopra even has a statue to recognise his movie contributions in Interlarken, Switzerland. We look forward to seeing a happy holiday photo of Harneet in front of the statue one day, hopefully soon.

Meet the Resident

Dawn

We spoke to Dawn, one of our newer residents who was happy to share her story. Dawn was born to Doreen and Gordon in Kew, Vic but didn’t stay there for long. Her Dad was a State Bank manager, and they moved many times. Dawn attended primary school in Mildura, Albury, South Melbourne, Ascot Vale and Eltham. High School followed at West Garth and Camberwell Girl’s School which at the time was known as Mangarra Girl’s School in East Camberwell. After high school Dawn attended Lucknow school in the Gippsland region. There was a shortage of teachers in Victoria at the time, so an intense course of study was offered and Dawn at only 18 years of age after two years of training became a qualified teacher. Dawn has always been involved with her church and faith is important to her. She loved being part of the Christian organisation called Saltshakers. Dawn came to us from Cumberland Village and so she recognises a few faces here and attends our devotions at Cumberland View Aged Care on Wednesdays in the concert area.

Dawn spent time in a volunteer ladies group where they arranged posies to give to aged care residents. Dawn loves flowers and has as many as 18 orchids. Dawns family is her pride and joy. She raised 2 sons and 1 daughter, is grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with one more on the way soon! Dawn has always loved reading and enjoys biographies as well as Lee Child crime stories. She can be found at our book club and plans to browse the shelves of our library.

Meet the Resident

Dawn

Dawn has travelled with her late husband caravanning to many parts of Australia. One of her favourite trips was to see the wildflowers in WA. She has also travelled to New Zealand and even lived overseas in England for two years. Dawn’s late husband was given a scholarship to study as a research scientist metallurgy at Oxford university where one of their children was born while they lived there. Please join us in welcoming Dawn to Cumberland View and say hello when you see her at the morning walking group, book club, devotions or relaxing at the café with friends.
