Meet the Resident

Dawn

We spoke to Dawn, one of our newer residents who was happy to share her story. Dawn was born to Doreen and Gordon in Kew, Vic but didn’t stay there for long. Her Dad was a State Bank manager, and they moved many times. Dawn attended primary school in Mildura, Albury, South Melbourne, Ascot Vale and Eltham. High School followed at West Garth and Camberwell Girl’s School which at the time was known as Mangarra Girl’s School in East Camberwell. After high school Dawn attended Lucknow school in the Gippsland region. There was a shortage of teachers in Victoria at the time, so an intense course of study was offered and Dawn at only 18 years of age after two years of training became a qualified teacher. Dawn has always been involved with her church and faith is important to her. She loved being part of the Christian organisation called Saltshakers. Dawn came to us from Cumberland Village and so she recognises a few faces here and attends our devotions at Cumberland View Aged Care on Wednesdays in the concert area.

Dawn spent time in a volunteer ladies group where they arranged posies to give to aged care residents. Dawn loves flowers and has as many as 18 orchids. Dawns family is her pride and joy. She raised 2 sons and 1 daughter, is grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with one more on the way soon! Dawn has always loved reading and enjoys biographies as well as Lee Child crime stories. She can be found at our book club and plans to browse the shelves of our library.
