Step Into Culture, Science, and Art A MUSEUM ADVENTURE AWAITS

Scan to Share Your Case — We’re Here to Help!

FLEET SCIENCE CENTER The Fleet Science Center is a wonderful place to see how things work firsthand. Featuring hundreds of interactive exhibits that allow you to experiment and learn about the wonders of the world, it’s fun and educational for both kids and adults. They also have a planetarium where you can get a 360-degree space tour. If you and your family love science, it’s a must-see stop. They offer various discounts, and residents can get in for free on the first Tuesday of every month. SAN DIEGO NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM “The Nat” is a nature lover’s haven that puts the plants and animals of Southern California front and center. As a big book lover, I like to stop and read every display, which can teach you about what happened on Earth millions of years ago, and what occurs around us today. From impressive fossils to their nature trail and many workshops, it’s a great place to learn and appreciate the power of nature. On select Fridays, they stay open late until 10 p.m. EXPLORING DIFFERENT CULTURES Balboa Park has many ways to explore if you’re interested in different cultures and seeing the world through the traditions and art of people from across the globe. The House of Pacific Relations International Cottages lets you sample 35 different cultures, all spread out in multiple historic cottages. Each building teaches you about a different country and often hosts ethnic food fairs and cultural

Museums are more than a collection of objects and art; they’re windows into culture, history, science, and society. I’ve always enjoyed history and learning, and being in San Diego gives you a ticket to every type of museum you could imagine. If you like superheroes and action characters, there’s the Comic-Con Museum. Fans of art and Chicano culture can explore the Centro Cultural De La Raza. Anything you did not learn in school or a formal classroom can be found at The Fleet Science Center. Even for people simply looking for something to do on a nice day, the city’s museums and galleries are a perfect place to spend hours. October is Museums and Galleries Month, a reminder of how these important institutions help us see the world from new perspectives, spark curiosity, and teach us about the human experience. Whether you’re a full-time Californian or visiting San Diego for a few days, the area’s museums are a wonderful way to learn and discover what makes life so fascinating. Balboa Park is a major cultural hub, featuring nearly 20 museums, galleries, and gardens. Along with these, they regularly feature different events and food designed to help people experience other cultures and ways of life. You could never see everything Balboa Park offers in a day, but here are four highlights you should ensure are on your museum to-do list.

events. The Mingei (Japanese for “art of the people”) International Museum features art from around the globe. You can see everything from traditional Mexican dresses to indigenous baskets or folk toys from France circa 1890. SOMETHING DIFFERENT For those seeking something unique, fun, or different, I recommend the San Diego Model Railroad Museum or the San Diego Automotive Museum. Both explore the history of transportation and are perfect for car and train lovers in your family. Many museums in Balboa Park offer free days to California residents, which you can find at BalboaPark.org/resident-free-days . They have multiple types of Balboa Park Explorer Passes that allow you to visit multiple venues in a day, week, or year, making it affordable to visit these valuable institutions. For me, museums are a reminder of how much knowledge and creativity our community has to share. I encourage you to explore them this month. You may leave with a new perspective and realize how much is left to learn.

CREATE HYGGE IN EVERY COMFORTING MORNING STEP Start Your Day the Danish Way

There’s a quiet magic in the early morning. It’s a time made for gentleness, nourishing both body and spirit. That’s the beauty of hygge , a Danish philosophy rooted in comfort, mindfulness, and savoring life’s small pleasures. Pronounced “ hoo-gah ,” this gentle lifestyle encourages you to slow down and enjoy the present moment. And what better time to begin than first thing in the morning?

kind that feels like a chore but one that softly awakens your muscles and soothes your joints. This small act stirs your blood and eases your body into the day with kindness. Let your shower become a sanctuary. Choose a soap that smells like the season — apple, cinnamon, or something crisp and woodsy. Let the warm water remind you that you’re not in a rush, that this moment is yours. As the coffee brews or tea steeps, light a candle . Watch it flicker and think of someone who has touched your life. Offer a quiet thank-you and wish them well. This small blessing is a gift to them and you. Slip on your walking shoes and greet the world outside . Even a short stroll can awaken a sense of calm. Listen to the autumn leaves rustle, feel the sun on your cheeks. Let nature’s rhythm soften your own. These hygge-inspired rituals help you reclaim mornings with grace, presence, and joy. You’ve earned mornings like these. Let them carry you forward.

Begin right where you wake, still nestled beneath the covers. Before your feet ever touch the floor, take a moment to stretch — not the

AUTUMN ADVENTURES JUST OUTSIDE SAN DIEGO Swap the City for Scenic Views

As the golden colors and cool breezes of autumn roll into San Diego, it’s the perfect time to swap the city for new scenic views just a car ride away. From charming small towns like Julian to the unique desert landscape of Joshua Tree, the best day trips of the season are full of local flavor, culture, and beautiful landscapes. Here are three of our favorite places to visit just outside of the city, where you can spend the day or have a mini weekend getaway. JULIAN The quaint and historic town of Julian is only about an hour away and comes to life in the fall. The best time to visit this rural gem in the mountains is mid-September through mid-November for the famous Fall Apple Harvest. You can pick apples, drink fresh cider, and enjoy one of the best slices of pie in the state. There are also plenty of hiking and biking trails and a vibrant Main Street with local shops. Julian is rich in Gold

Rush history, and you can step into the shoes of prospectors past by taking a mine tour or even panning for gold yourself. JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK Joshua Tree National Park is well-known for its unusual desert landscape and rock formations. It’s about a three-hour drive from San Diego, and while you can see all the highlights in a day, you may not be able to resist staying in one of its popular camp sites or the artsy town just outside the visitor center. Make sure to snap some photos of the iconic plants the park is named for and enjoy panoramic views from vantage points like Keys View. Some of the most popular rock formations are Skull Rock, Arch Rock, and Barker Dam. CORONADO ISLAND You don’t have to go far to feel transported to a different pace of life. Coronado Island is just across the bridge and is the quintessential

beachside retreat. You can easily fill a whole day with activities like shopping at the Coronado Ferry Landing, enjoying the golden sands of Coronado Beach, or visiting the historic Hotel del Coronado. If you just want to take in some sights, you could probably bike around Coronado in about 90 minutes.

HAVE A LAUGH

Real Stories. Real Results.

How We Help Our Clients Rebuild

At The Law Office of Elliott Kanter, we believe in helping people when they need it most, standing by our clients through difficult times, and fighting for life-changing outcomes. We value and appreciate your feedback. Here’s what three of our recent clients had to say about working with us. “Elliot was my third attorney during a case that dragged on for two years. I was convinced my situation was hopeless, that there was no outcome I could live with. Elliott proved me wrong. Not only did he help me see a path forward, but he actually secured a result better than I thought possible. He cut through the noise, zeroed in on the facts, and helped the judge understand that I needed treatment, not prison. I was originally facing nearly 15 years. Instead, I got rehab and two years of low-level probation. Elliott doesn’t work miracles, but he comes close if you’re willing to do your part. Help yourself, and he’ll fight to help you, too.”

“I was in San Diego on a job site when things went wrong and I got hurt, really badly. I didn’t know where to turn, but I found his law firm and called, and of course, he took my case. It was like a higher power put us together. After just one conversation with him, we had so much in common. I can’t thank Elliott and his team enough. They went above and beyond my expectations. After five grueling years, everything, and I do mean everything, came out in my favor. Thank you so very, very much for representing me and being my friend.”

REEL IN MORE FISH THIS AUTUMN

AUTUMN ANGLING Where, When, and How to Hook Fish This Fall

EXPERIMENT WITH DEPTHS Fall turnover can scatter fish throughout various depths. Don’t hesitate to try different depths until you locate active fish. Using a fish finder can help you identify these productive zones. FISH THROUGHOUT THE DAY Unlike summer, when fish are most active during dawn and dusk, fall fish feed more consistently throughout the day. This allows for flexible fishing schedules without the need for early starts.

As cooler temperatures, golden leaves, and holidays roll in, fall is one of the best-kept secrets in fishing. While many pack up their rods after summer, savvy anglers know autumn is when the real magic happens. Fish feed aggressively as they prepare for winter, and the crowds of people enjoying the water have thinned out. A few tweaks can level up your fishing game this season, whether you’re chasing bass, crappie, or trout. TARGET SHALLOW WATERS As temperatures drop, baitfish like shad move into the backs of creeks and embayments. Predatory fish such as bass and crappie follow, making these areas hotspots. Focus your efforts on these shallow zones to increase your catch rate.

your fishing area. This increases the likelihood of enticing bites.

EXPLORE STOCKED WATERS Many lakes and streams are stocked with trout and catfish in the fall. These fish are often eager to bite, providing excellent opportunities for anglers. UTILIZE LIVE BAIT Live bait can be particularly effective in cooler temperatures. Minnows, nightcrawlers, and shad can more effectively entice sluggish fish than artificial lures. MONITOR WATER CONDITIONS Fall often brings changes in water levels due to drawdowns. Stay informed about these conditions, as they influence fish locations and behavior.

FOCUS ON STRUCTURE Fish gravitate toward structures like

submerged wood and rocky banks during fall. These areas provide shelter and warmth, and targeting them can lead to successful catches. MATCH THE CATCH In fall, baitfish grow larger. Adjust your lure size and color to mimic the prevalent forage in
