A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

It has been another action packed week for Year 7 students! Monday saw the whole school getting involved in the borough’s ‘SAFE’ activity on substance awareness. Year 7 looked at the issues involved with vaping.

On Thursday we launched our Easter Bonnet competition and we marked International Women’s Day with some special form activities today. A much loved staple of the Year 7 calendar is the Easter Bonnet parade. Each year, on the last day of term, Year 7 students are invited to make an Easter bonnet (this can be an existing hat that has been decorated) and join our Easter bonnet parade in the hall. Students can enter individually or they can enter the group category and make an especially large bonnet that allows two or more students to wear it at once. There will be some small chocolate based prizes for notable entries but the main aim is to be creative and have some fun! Please note that this is a voluntary competition and students do not need to enter if they do not wish to. More information can be found on your child’s form Google Classroom. As mentioned last week, we have set up a survey for both students and parents/carers to help us improve our Year 6 to Year 7 transition process. I would be very grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing this and encourage your child to complete the student version too. Your help with this is much appreciated. The survey will close on Sunday 10 March.

This week’s pacesetters in the house point race are 7EST, 7PIR and 7FLE. Well done everybody!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

“ A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder ” is a fast-paced and captivating mystery novel which follows the life of a young girl Pippa who grew up in a small town which has become tainted with a murder. Despite the case being closed, she chooses to study the case as her topic for her final year project and begins to unveil secrets that wish to stay deeply hidden. I loved watching the story unfold and leftover fragments of a murder case left open click together through the compelling and relatable character of Pippa. I would really recommend it for anyone looking for a gripping and challenging read, which explores second guessing the truth and looking deeper than the surface.
