2025 FCS KICKOFF CLASSIC - Mercer and UC Davis, two 2024 FCS Quarter- finalists, will meet in the 2025 FCS Kickoff Classic in downtown Montgomery. The Week 0 event is scheduled for Aug. 23, 2025, at the historic Cramton Bowl. Game time, ticket information and television coverage will be announced at a later date. Mercer will make its second appearance in three seasons, having used a swarming defense to knock off North Alabama, 17-7, in a lightning-altered game that opened the 2023 college football season. UC Davis is the first California-based school to play in the FCS Kickoff Classic. Both schools wrapped up historic 2024 campaigns as national seeds in the quarterfinals round of the FCS Playoffs. The fifth-seeded Aggies (11-3) dropped a tough 35-21 contest at fourth- seeded South Dakota, while the seventh-seeded Bears (11-3) fell 31-7 to second-seed North Dakota State. This will be the 11th FCS Kickoff and the eighth played in Montgomery. SE Missouri defeated North Alabama, 37-15 in last year’s game. CHASING GRAND SLAM RECORD - The University of Tennessee baseball team is chasing the NCAA Grand Slam Record. After setting an SEC record with 12 grand slams last season, Tennessee is well on its way to breaking the NCAA Division I single-season record this year. Through the program's first 12 games, the Vols have already mashed seven grand slams. Arizona State holds the NCAA record with 14 in 2003, doing so in 68 games. AUSL CHAMPIONSHIP - Athletes Unlimited Softball League has revealed its full summer schedule and Rhoads Stadium at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa will be one of eight host sites during the season. This includes a two-game series between the Talons and Volts on July 22-23 and the AUSL Championship, a best-of-three series from July 26-28. Action at Rhoads Stadium begins with a pair of games between the Talons and Volts on Tuesday, July 22 at 6 p.m. CT and Wednesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. CT. Alabama All- American Montana Fouts was drafted to the Talons in the league’s draft earlier this year. Upon the conclusion of the AUSL regular season that Wednesday, the top two seeds in the four-team league will face off in the AUSL Championship at Rhoads Stadium starting Saturday, July 26 at 5 p.m. CT. Game two of the best-of-three series will take place Sunday, July 27 at 4 p.m. CT with a third if-necessary game taking place Monday, July 28 at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets sales start Wednesday, March 19 at 9 a.m. CT through the Alabama Athletics Ticket Office at RollTide.com. 2028 NCAA TOURNAMENT - Conference USA will partner with the Dallas Sports Commission to host the Division I Men’s Basketball South Regional during the 2028 NCAA Tournament at the American Airlines Center This marks the first time CUSA has served as a host for any round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The league hosted the Dallas Regional during the 2007 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament at Reunion Arena. It also marks the second time that the American Airlines Center will host a men’s regional after the venue recently hosted the South Regional during the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. SEC WOMEN'S CHAMPS - South Carolina defeated Texas 64-45 to win the 2025 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament. Chloe Kitt was named the MVP after recording 15 points and nine rebounds. The win marked the program's ninth SEC women's title and it helped South Carolina secure a 13th consecutive trip to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. $1.5 MILLION MATCHING GIFT - Vanderbilt University has announced a $1.5 million matching gift from Mark H. Carter to support Vanderbilt men’s basketball NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) initiatives and inspire Commodore Nation to action. Carter will match all gifts and pledges, up to $1.5 million, to support Anchor Impact’s men’s basketball NIL efforts. Anchor Impact is the official collective of Vanderbilt Athletics and it operates independently of Vanderbilt University.
